That server transfer thing sounds neat. I kind of gave up on XI private servers when I'd go to log on and the server would be gone. This happened twice. If I had the information still this would be an easy way to jump back from where I left things.

Thanks, honestly if you have any FFXI account we can migrate it for you. Private or retail we can transfer the data with the tool. I know most myself included walked from FFXI years ago because SE changed the fundamental aspects of the game. I just remember some of those first feelings when things were accomplished that did not seem possible. First DL kill as a LS, First Tiamat/Jorm and Vvrta Kills. That legitimate Nidhogg Kill, god I miss those days.

Voidwatch Chapter 1 has arrived to Legion!
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/at...951966&thumb=1
Exclusive to Legion once again we are the first to roll out new content in the ever growing private server community!
In Voidwatch, bands of six to eighteen members will square off against “Voidwalkers,” savage entities that have breached planar bounds to invade multiple landscapes spanning past and present. By slaying these manifestations of terror, you and your stalwart comrades will gradually come to discover the true nature of the threat that has all of Vana’diel up in arms.
To spawn a Voidwalker and initiate battle, simply examine a planar rift while in possession of the requisite key items. Combatants have thirty minutes to dispatch their foe, after which time the Voidwalker will disappear and the operation will be deemed a failure.

Participation Requirements
Level 75 (99 recommended)
Possession of the following key items:
Adventurer’s Certificate / Stratum Abyssite / Voidstone
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/at...951966&thumb=1
Getting Started:
If you meet the requirements the voidwatch officers in Windhurst Waters, Southern Sandoria, and Bastok Markets will issue you a stratum abyssite and a voidstone (an additional voidstone can be acquired daily by returning to any officer).
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/at...311869&thumb=1
* All of the Quests are not coded yet, simply join a city in the past, and talk to the Voidwatch officers in all 3 present cities to obtain abysites
Progression:
Once in possession of a voidstone and stratum abyssite, Voidwatch progresses the same as retail with a few minor changes. You can follow the chart listed here:
http://ffxiclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/C...rious_Monsters and head to a Planar Rift to spawn the mob. Only one Rift is scrpted per zone:

You must kill every mob in the tier for your abyssite to upgrade! We are not using the NPC to handle the upgrades so when you have killed all mobs in that tier your abyssite will automatically upgrade and the old one will be removed. You will not receive a message this has happened so be mindful to check you KI's. Every player in the alliance will receive credit for the kill, and the abyssite upgrade if they are on that tier, as well as the 10-30k+ exp per kill. Mobs auto de-spawn in 30 minutes!
Major differences from retail:
· You do loose your KI's on upgrade! (this means you can help with lower tiers but cannot pop them). You can however go back and get a fresh T1 after completing your T4.
· There is no "Voidwatch" status applied.
· There are no treasure chests only the drops in pool.
· There is no proc system.
· You cannot use Atma.
· There is no distance variable causing you to kicked from the fight.
· Voidstone is only deducted from the player who popped the mob.
· Voidstone's do not accrue automatically you MUST talk to the Voidwatch officer daily to get voidstones!
Voidwatch, Bayld, and 119 Reforged.
Beginning in T2 you will notice you begin to accrue the currency "Bayld" from kills. This currency will be used in conjunction with certain items coming in future chapters to upgrade your 109 reforge armor to 119 (similar to the legion points system). We will release more information on this and the actual trials closer to the release of Chapter 2.

Voidwatch, Bayld, and 119 Reforged.
Beginning in VW Chapter 2 you will notice you begin to accrue more "Bayld" from kills. The Bald will increase as VW progresses ending at 2500 per kill for P.Watcher. This currency will be used in conjunction with the rems chapters you see dropping at the end of chapter 2-6. The NPC Renik in Upper Jeuno will handle 119 reforge trials. To upgrade your 109 trade Renik your 109 + 5 Rems Chapters, the transaction will cost you 5,000 Bayld per trade. Like Legion upgrades be sure you are deliberate in your trade as he will remove the currency automatically.
· Rem's Chapter 1 (feet)
· Rem's Chapter 2 (legs)
· Rem's Chapter 3 (hands)
· Rem's Chapter 4 (head)
· Rem's Chapter 5 (body)
Voidwatch Alternate Trials: Alluvion Skirmish Armor
We have added an additional set of trials to VW for those not trying to obtain 119 reforge, or trying to outfit additional jobs / mules in 119 lv armor. To obtain these sets you will trade 5 Rusty Coins (drop through VW chapter 2+) + the designated AH item to Renik in Upper Jeuno, the transaction will cost you 5,000 Bayld. The available sets are listed below: (no they are not augmentable….. Yet)
https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Category:...Skirmish_Armor
The AH items required for the trades are listed below.
· Adaman --> Yorium
· Royal Squires --> Acro
· Wool Gambison --> Taeon
· Traders --> Telchine
· Errant --> Helios
The trade requires the same item from one set to get the other. For example, for Yorium head you would need
Adaman Barbuta + 5 Rusty Coins + 5,000 Bayld.

Economic Changes
We have begun the process of balancing the economy properly. Over the next few major updates you will begin to see changes related to how we intend to fix one of the biggest issues as developers that everyone faces. The goal with this change is to find a balance between the automated AH based items and the items that will not be included in the auto buy/sell script on the AH. We intend for this process to be completed in multiple updates over the next few months towards the end of the year.

Legion Battle System Changes
http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/...20120117153246
New changes to the Legion battle system are in and effective immediately!
Community Assistants will no longer be needed to start legion, from here on out ANY player can launch a legion run!
The new player command @legionlaunch has been added to the game. The group leader will use this cmd to be transported to the Legion Tome and can then launch a legion run at the book by trading the following items:
Hall of An - Fire Cluster
Hall of Ki - Lofty Trophy
Hall of Im - Mired Trophy
Hall of Muru - Soaring Trophy
Hall of Mul - Veiled Trophy
ALL LEGION HALLS COST 1 MILLION GIL. THE GIL WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM THE PERSON TRADING THE ITEM AUTOMATICALLY AND IT IS YOUR RESPONSABILITY TO COLLECT FROM YOU PARTY IF YOU ARE NOT FULLY SPONSERING THE RUN!!!
When the trade is complete the leader will be transported to the selected Legion Hall and the Mobs will be spawned. From this point your group members will need to use the @legionhall cmds to join you in the hall to begin the battle.
December 5th will mark the first year of Legion Dark.
We are able to celebrate this day thanks to all the adventurers who keep Vana'diel close to their hearts. Thank you for your steadfast support.
This year, we are holding a special campaign for Legions first anniversary, and we would like to offer everyone something special. The moogle overlords have decided to congratulate and thank you all by bestowing unto you the power of the ancients. Once every hour they will use their vast powers of magic to bestow a random buff onto you.
The most coveted of buffs shall last 15 minutes, while the weaker buffs tax your bodies far less, lasting for a full 30 minutes.
During this campaign, moogles stationed throughout the three nations will provide players with a variety of information and records about their adventures, and may even give you a commemorative gift or two!
This event will run from 12:01am on Dec 1st until 11:59pm on Dec 7th.
We will continue to provide version updates centered on adjustments to make the game easy to enjoy for solo players who are unable to play for long sessions, and will also provide party-oriented content and difficult battles for those who wish to adventure with their friends.
The development and operations teams are working tirelessly to provide you with the most engrossing Vana'diel experience to date, and we look forward to continuing our journeys with you in this, our second year of service.
Also as a special thank you every 24 hours you will be able to obtain an Anniversary Ring each day during the event!
The server's admin thinks it's funny to nuke players as they're EXPing and/or camping NMs and then leave them dead where they lay. The staff of this server's one of the worst I've ever encountered.
I had my gripes, but some of it inevitably falls into the category of it being their house, so their rules. Tempers flared from time to time when I played as a result of players either not going about things as desired or voicing discontent about what'd been implemented with respect to balance/accessibility/manpower reqs (as a small private server). Maybe things have changed since then, but they seemed pretty set in their ways.
Not sure what my involvement with other servers has to do with this topic but here's some backstory on that:
I assisted with a server called FFXiFree for a while helping fix bugs/exploits as well as work on the DarkStar server core. After a few months of being around, it was becoming stressed more and more that donations were needed to cover server costs. Members of the community put two and two together to realize the their donations were being pocketed by the owner (viper). People had donated more than enough to cover the $80ish a month server cost and yet were being told not enough donations were made to cover the cost. viper was outed on TeamSpeak by myself and a few other staff members and ultimately the choice to move to another server and start a different community was made.
The community moved to what is now known as Era. I personally did the move for them since their staff at the time was not code savvy or capable of doing the move themselves. At the start, it was made clear that donations were specifically for server costs and that transaction information would be made public to prove it. Sadly, after a while, it was basically like a broken record. It became obvious that the leader (Mishima) was stealing the money for personal gain. Money was lacking in the account, costs of the server were barely being met or struggling to be met, and somehow the person with a "felony" on his record and no job was magically affording all kinds of expensive things. (Computer parts, high-quality cameras, high-quality studio microphone, etc.)
I left because of donations being stolen on both communities.
I joined LegionDark because they are one of the only servers that do not allow donations at all. It removed the entire possibility of greed or money being stolen, because there is none.
As for me charging for things, my work is my own and has nothing to do with any of the private servers that I've been part of or have helped out in the past.
This server currently is unplayable as it is continusous hit with major lag spike. The GMs and community claim it is due to a "packet issue" however DSP released this fix well over a month ago.
I want to address this statement directly as you are not giving everyone the full truth as to what is exactly going on. First anyone who follows DSP should be well aware they have multiple branches that they run out of. The "Master" branch which includes the new AIrewrite and the "stable" branch which does not yet have these fixes. All the major servers run out of the stable branch as the master branch has way to many bugs to bring live.
Secondly, yes there are lag issues which we are working to resolve. They however are not 24/7 issues and only seem to occur at night when people are in alliances. There are fixes in place in DSP we are unable to merge as if we did it would break 3/4 of the server as DSP changed the way NMs were calling TP moves and spells. This is forcing us to do a complete rewrite of our 1000 custom NMs and all there TP moves and spells. During this rewrite it was discovered that the original dev who handled our droplist had put custom drops in with the DSP main files, amazingly this file had never gotten overwritten. During this time the staff made a conscientious development decision to rewrite a good portion of the server for now a 4th time in a little over a year. No other private server has Abyssea, Voidwatch, SOA NMs, Legion, ZNM with PW, or Sea with AV all working. In order to update the spells and TP moves the entire database needed an overhaul in which we decided to move our custom scripts, moves etc into separate files which will then get merged with DSP files during the stages where the server gets compiled and updated.
In addition to this we have added 500 new crafting recipes, and over 1000 new items and mats to the server which DSP does not have for ilvl crafting. This is perhaps the single biggest update our small staff has attempted to deploy. These things unfortunately take a massive amount of time when 3/4 of the staff has full time jobs and children to attend to.
Also as of yesterday due to players exploiting things, we have begun a overhaul of the economy in preparation for the update we are working on.
We still maintain a playerbase of 100+ users during peak times even with the lag issues, and 40-70 during non peak times.
We are not sitting here making excuses, we are simply working on things to the best of our abilities.
I just want to get something understood for my own curiosity. Am I reading right that this server has Abyssea, Voidwatch content, level 99, and many different gear options for level 99? Aaaaaaaaaaaand this is on a free server that others are paying for out of their own pocket and caring for? AAAAAAAAAAAND someone has the nerve to complain?
Like I said earlier, differences in opinion arose. Their Abyssea wasn't the same as retail's Abyssea, as an example. For me, the problem wasn't so much that it was different, but it didn't seem to account very well for the abilities of a player to prepare for such challenges alongside the usual issues of private servers and small populations. When events did happen, more often than not you had one of the staffers god moding victory while everyone else zombie reraised due to constant AoE rape, only for someone with their xth geared job winning lots when you had first-timers desperately needing stuff.
Maybe they've smoothed over those edges. I don't know. It's been about a year since then for me. When I walked away, host mentality from the player perspective seemed to emphasize making things harder than they needed to be and putting down players who spoke out. It's mainly what fueled my desire that one day we'd have a true up-to-date retail clone since the private server scene either involves the game ending with CoP (because it's "better" then) or too much divergence, be it ease or "fake" difficulty. "Not everyone's cup of tea," may be a politically correct descriptor, and me not going all trash talk is at least out of respect for what was done at the time, but for the XI fan, maybe they're a bit too different at this point.
That's a fair assessment. It reminds me, I forget which server it was, but there was one where they put all the great drops on all wyrms. All were doable mostly except Fafnir. It literally spammed every JA including Flail. The mgmt and their pets were all "lol u suck it's easy we duo that". If anything like that even remotely has happened in the past I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again and that goes for any server out there.
Arus, at the time you had played we rushed out a vast amount of content as the mentalities of us the staff were a lot different at the time then they are now. We especially me have spent the better part of the past 2 months reorganizing content and finding the gaps in things which ultimately made certain things harder then they were intended to be. The other issue at hand is a vast majority of the time players tend to complain when there is nothing to complain about and never offer a viable suggestion to a given problem.
We have had a staff member in secret over the past several weeks going through the server to find the holes in the leveling experience. As noone has ever attempted to re-balance the game for 99 play the way we have it is a trying and often very difficult thing to complete. We expect with the zone level reorganization as well as the inclusion of ilvl crafting in the coming weeks that a vast majority of things earlier players to the server had issues with will be fully resolved.
Kalmado we appreciate everyone's opinions on the content and do our best to dissect through legit concerns and opinions. We understand that the server will not appeal to everyone. The server has always been advertised as this our vision for what SE should have done at 99 for the retail game.
Legion, I appreciate the response and agree that no one will ever be fully satisfied. Or in this case, have this server appeal to them. Even though I'm not on your server (or any) I do think it's neat that you provide updates here since people are still interested in XI. I hope your server does prosper and is respected within the community.
