You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    Boy's hair gel

Aight, I figured this was the best place for me to ask. Sometimes I wanna spike my son's hair (he's only one fyi). I bought some suave gel for kids, and holy crap does it suck balls. Not only does it not last, it turned all white n' shit.

I never had brothers or anything, so this is an area I know jack shit about. It was the only product I saw that was specifically for kids, and I figured since he was so young I wanted to be safe.

Any thoughts? Maybe from dads who have styled their own son's hair?

I used DEP for years before I changed to professional grade stuff. It comes in a tall, clear bottle with a blue gel in it. Like $3. Use it sparingly, it'll turn his head into a bed of nails if you glob it on.

Asked my mother who is a hairdresser, and she says go with Spiker Ice. You should be able to get it at any Sally's.

Dont use gel, you'll make him hate you from an early age.

Cvs/walgreens/riteaid in both Boston and Baton Rouge (so safe to assume all over country) sell this hair wax in a green tub that's just called "molding wax". It's very cheap and it works well for hair of short to fairly long length. Just need to be careful, because it's cheap, you want to rub it in well before you style. Hasn't happened in a long time, but years ago if I just threw it in, didn't rub it around, it would flake after drying when jostled.

Hasn't happened in years though so either rub it in good or they modified the formula.

But yeah, super cheap, works as well as products that cost 10-20x the price (from experience).

+1 for the wax. Lasts all day without the residue like gel and adding a bit of water allows for restyle. Doesn't look shiny or fake like gel.

Every experience with hair wax I've had has included requiring a lot of effort to get the stuff out again afterwards. I dunno about your son, but my nearly-two-year-old has a fit if it takes more than about fifteen seconds to wash her hair, and with as much time as she spends with her hands in her hair and her mouth I wouldn't want to put anything in her hair that I couldn't easily get out again.

tl;dr: Use wax if you want, but test it on yourself first so you know what you're dealing with.

I tend to either use Woody's Mega Firm Gel and some sort of matte clay like Beyond the Zone Rock On.

Do you want it to make his hair shiny or matte? Do you want it to have a strong, rigid hold, or be pliable? If you're going to put chemicals in his hair, let's not pretend there's some "safe children's brand" and get you a good product instead.

I like the idea of wax, I hadn't thought of that. Gel worries me about getting into the skin, but I would imagine wax would not.

Ty guys! I will try to get some this weekend to try it out!
