Random Tech (or IT Work!) Fail

Some smart asshole I work with decided it was a good idea to have electricians come work on the main building and cut assorted power without warning IT. Logically, things went down. Now, all our servers are on a massive UPS. but our network stuff isn't. I ordered one a while back, but not enough hours in the day to get it up and running (that part is mea culpa admittedly.)
so when the electricians cut power to the server room... of course the network goes down, and while the physical servers are fine, several of the VMs run on linux, and our Unity storage solution is connected to the physical hosts via the network, and those do NOT like losing connection. FML.

Node goes down to one of my facilities. Charter comes out on site and swaps out the modem and decides to take it upon themselves to reboot all of our hardware. Some how manages to kill one router and a switch in the process, thanks dude you did your job.

Boss hire a guy to redo the website from scratch.

Web guy calls me and ask me if i can do a backup of the new website before he starts.

I ask him a backup of what. Since he didn't do anything yet.

He asked a backup of the physical server incase something breaks

I gave up at that point

I hate people who can't give the simplest of information and expect me to read their mind.

Last week I had a request come in to post one of two presentations being recorded on the IT home page for today depending on which has the better quality after the person who put in the request uploaded it. Simple enough.

Come this morning I notice the person who put in the request is set to DND so decide I'll just wait until after lunch when they'll have the meeting they want ready instead if botgering tgem just in case tgey were already recording. Come back from lunch and find out they opened up yet another request asking where the link is "as the presentation is now posted".

First off, why open a new request instead of asking for an update on what you had opened? Second, just beacuse you posted it doesn't mean I know where it is. I really feel like this is the kind of stuff which should be common knowledge if you're going to ask IT for anything.

It's been 3 weeks since I submitted my ticket. I'll let it rot in the abyss of the queue until some shit happens to the spreadsheet I edit.

Fail turned win! RMA'd a VisionTek R9 280X due to no video output. Card was a refurb from Micro Center. VisionTek says they aren't honoring the warranty due to a bunch of stuff. Get the card back today and wa-la it works!

It's not Random fail but i feel this is the bestplace to ask

I need to change my company headset for our Orderdesk department

The phone we use right now are Grandstream GXP2160.
The Headset port seems to be an RJ-9
The headset we would like must have these options

1) Be able to connect to the PC of the user to listen to PC music at random time
2) Headset must be wireless (from the base) so that people can move))
3) Headset must be able to answer the phone without an adapter if possible or the cradle must not be like 1/2 the price of the headset
4) Must be sold in lolcanada

Thanks I never played much with work headsets so i'm kinda unsure about which to get

I alsmost have 0 time breaks or lunch.

Job piles up,

When bosses do new projects i'm not informed until the last minute

They refuse to hire

The proble mis we are only 70 employees but fuck they keep making projects thwen the other is not done

Sounds familiar :/ I want a change of venue too, but hard to find, the universities are pumping out a lot more people than there are jobs. I'm 35 and I feel "old" in the business.

Yep sounds par for the course. Throw in executives who have a background in tech but don't bother to learn the infrastructure of the current business they run but still think they can make unilateral changes without talking to IT. Oh yeah my manager retired about 6 months ago and I took on a huge chunk of the work he used to do now I am in charge of ALL servers and ALL networking infrastructure on top of end user support for a business of about 120 employees all while upper management hasn't even acknowledged the extra workload the three remaining IT team members have taken on since our managers departure. Makes for some grumpy IT people.
