    2D pixel sidescrollers are one thing, 3D animation is another. Obviously the code requirements between the generations have changed, but the leap between PS2 and PS4 art styles is probably not drastic enough to really say it's much of a cost cutter with the biggest bloat probably being attention to detail the latter comparatively enables. See: Why so many RPGs from any studio wind up on the DS instead of consoles anymore.

    It's hard to pin blame exactly, since the more specialized the tech gets, the more complex it becomes to use and thus demanding a higher understanding and pay. Then you get greedy and/or incompetent execs bleeding resources for their own agendas. Do ever-growing player demands fuck things up, too? Sometimes games simply come out at the wrong time, as well. I feel like we're steering toward a point where someone is eventually just going to have to come out with some universally awesome and easy-to-use game engine and everyone else just utilizes it in their own way from there. But I think part of that hinges more on the success of Oculus and its clones and other technical evolutions we'll see in the coming decades.

    I remember before the PS4 launch how Mark Cerny talking about how making PS4 games is going to be so much easier like it was in the PS2 days.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't that have more to do with the PS3 running on a Linux kernel or something like that?

    Idk what exactly it was. I thought it was the cell processor. But it was always said PS3 games were a bitch to make, especially multiplat. He claimed it would be easier( which means cheaper to me) to make PS4 games now since using x84 processing. And since PS4 and Xbone both use same architecture just different chips. Games should be easier to code vs last gen. I am not a programmer. So kinda talking out my bum. I just recall the promise of easier programming from Cerny.

    I wouldn't say that. If anything it's the same amount of work as before (especially if you AAA) because technology for creating 3D models is so much better than it was in the PS2 days. Now artists usually just make everything super high-quality and trim down the details, so the less they have to do of that the better.

    Kojima has left the building, Konami denies it
    Kojima left Kojima Productions on Friday, October 9. A departure ceremony was held for the Metal Gear Solid creator with about 100 guests in attendance, but Konami president Hideki Hayakawa or CEO Sadaaki Kaneyoshi were not present. It was a “rather cheerful, but also emotional goodbye,” one guest told The New Yorker. Kojima had been an employee of the company for 29 years—since 1986.

    Kojima declined to speak with The New Yorker, citing a legally binding agreement with his previous employer. The New Yorker also notes that Kojima has a non-compete clause that will expire in December. After it expires, Kojima will be free to find a new studio and continue making games elsewhere.

    Update 10/20/15 at 1:40 a.m.: Konami has denied that Kojima has left the company. According to Tokyo Sports, via Kotaku, a Konami spokesperson told the outlet that, “Currently, Kojima is a listed as a company employee [at Konami].”

    The statement continued, “Currently, Kojima and the development team are finished developing Metal Gear Solid V and are taking a long time off from work.”

    Regarding the farewell party, Konami replied, “We’re not sure what kind of thing this was.”
