Or you find that one person and try to talk to them lol. Had a guy from I think my first ls send me a message awhile back because he logged in and I was like the only one on his flist. Took me awhile to even remember who it was since I hadn't even been on that server since 2005

I'd never replay now, but if I could do it all over again I'd have been a galka and leveled all the melee classes, smashing things in face with all that pwn gear I saw drop all the time, instead of being the dude who kept galka melees alive collecting gear I basically only wore in Jueno.

It's probably better for you that you didn't. Going Galka knocks a solid 20 points off your IQ.

I remember lots of stuff in this game, at least leveling wise

    -Valkum being shit
-Banshee poping at Qufim Lake (lol)
    -Zoning Zerket
-Bibiki bay was 'awsome' at 3k/h lol

Remember Taru Paladin getting 1 shotted sometimes at Bibiki Bay with Berserked Camel lol

Omg I remember how "awesome" bibiki bay was with 3, sometimes 3.5k/hr exp. Stayed there for like 6 hours, almost got a full level!

I'm 2 minutes in and he's just described what happens in every MMO ever. I hate this homo already

I'm actually always kind of intrigued when I see videos made by guys like this. He's an adult neckbeard living without shame. There's something to be said for people who can love themselves and live as they please regardless the opinions of others. I have always been a little too fond of health and the ladies to fully embrace such a life, but even if I was willing I don't know that I could stray so far from the "normal" social path.

None of his retrospective analysis of FFXI is going to shock a current player, but it does give someone who never played the game a brief history and overview. I'd rate the video "not bad." If the narrator could get a better microphone and put more affect into his voice, I'd probably upgrade it to "good."

I do actually agree with him that more difficulty (and let's be real, shitty game design) creates for a better community, which in turn creates better experiences/memories.
It's why I've always preferred UO over any other MMO I've played. Ya'll think losing exp is bad when you die in FFXI? Try losing ever single item you have on your person to be looted by whoever happens to be nearby. You'll garner hate towards pixelated people like you wouldn't believe, which in turn creates the most close-knit guilds you'll ever have.

"Check out this super pimp Swift Stygian Spear of Devastation I got guys!"
    ~You've been killed by xXxSephirothxXx~
    ~xXxSephirothxXx loots all your gear~
".... Fuck that guy! Let's all get him!"

But he looks like the type of person to wield a keyblade in public so I'm not 100% sure

Did he cover the part where ffxi ruined his chance at a normal life

All of his footage was newer. I'm pretty sure he missed the friendship MPK days.

iirc in the AMA they did they actually mentioned that had to an extent actually been their goal.

Video was alright, a decent trip down memory lane for people that played XI at its height, but the last seven minutes or so turn into "hey guys look how successful I am now and it's tangential connection to FFXI, don't forget to like share and subscribe and visit my Patreon page!"

    This is a thing.
In Gemstone [II/III/IV], they want people clustering together and socializing. So when you gain exp, it doesn't immediately tick up. First a buffer fills up, and as that buffer drains, you actually get the exp.
Now the buffer drains fairly slow, you will fill it up faster than it drains while hunting, and if you cap it out it actually drains a little slower until it drops a bit.
However, if you head back to a room called a node, there's a bonus to the drain rate. And these nodes just happen to be in places like town squares, taverns, etc.

Makes exping a lot of tedious back and forth, but it does avoid the "empty spaces" syndrome. And you may as well chat while you wait.
