One Punch-Man

Good stuff. One of the better little arcs for development recently. No real humor but I don't mind that. It been forever since the start of this series it seems, but didn't Saitama become a hero because he wanted to originally? Or at least started to pursue it? The little chat on the mining car got me wondering.

At first he wanted to get strong to help people in need, but it was really on a whim. He effectively decided to start his superhero regiment for "fun". Then he became disenchanted by how immensely strong he'd become, his hair fell out, the public got kinda weirded out about him, and that new isolation was something he couldn't tolerate.

You may recall a scene where he was extremely bored trying to save a guy who was about to jump off a roof. When the dominance came, and the hair fell, that "fun" went away. He had achieved the pinnacle of his hobby, but he was painfully alone.

But then he encountered Supersonic, who shined light on Saitama's lack of direction, creed, and identity. Sonic challenged Saitama to get serious and do something with that cosmic strength. So, on another whim, he joined the Hero Association, hoping he might find a way to curtail depression (and to make some extra scratch for bargain bin sales).

His real motives are often muddied by comedy. "YOU GIVE BALD GUYS A BAD NAME!" "Those.... were MY FRIES!" etc.

We always look forward to his slapstick. In this chapter's cut-away mine kart scene, Flashy Flash (who still hasn't seen Saitama actually fight) misses the mark when he assumes Saitama is after fame. It's pretty clear he just doesn't want to be alone. He wants friends, the recognition of his peers, and the respect any lower-middle class Japanese salaryman on the brink of being swallowed into otaku culture. Saitama became a hero to not be alone anymore.

I didn't imagine the black muscle dude to be this strong, I always considered him a joke character!

There was no build up to this either was there? I don't recall any previous chapter building to this, so to see it get here and finally some movement going is refreshing. Assuming now this puts Garou in his true demon form so he should now wipe everyone to the ground one by one before Saitama takes charge.

He’s always been touted as having a nearly if not fully impenetrable body. In the web comic he didn’t get much time to shine during this fight, I’m glad they gave him more room to grow here even if he’s fighting captain Plot Armor.

I knew the black muscle guy (I don't remember the name right now) was on his way in and he was commenting/thinking on the other hero's actions, but it just seems like he encountered Garou without any build up to it. I recall Garou being on the move since the last time he showed up a few chapters back. So I was wondering did their "bumping into each other" happened offscreen and we just happen to skip right into their fight.

Just getting hard to keep track of this multi mini plot thread going on haha

@BWYuko: thanks for the refresher. Like most (all?) of us here I enjoy this series immensely. I've been wondering at what the end result will be when it all ends. No real clear vision that I see other than the obvious "end the monster organization" or some such. Can't see that as a personal goal for Saitama though.

Also not sure about Saitama’s goal as not being alone. His reaction to new people entering his life always seems to be “why are you here bothering me”. Didn’t it start with him just wanting recognition? He joined the hero association I thought because nobody knew who he was and Genos brought up that he was unregistered.

I mean there could be deeper meaning but I think he’s just bored.

129 is out. Legit feels like theres repeat dialogue/scenes from the last time we saw these two fighting, but It could just be foggy memory. Either way, the story does progress a bit!
