As far as I know, its a direct sequel to T2. We are supposed to ignore T3, Salvation, and Genysis

Genysis is part of the new canon.

I really liked Genysis, but I went in not knowing anything and apparently trailers spoiled the big twist before the movie even came out. If I knew about John going in I probably would have been less into it.

Same. This looks like it can be really good. Though with T3 and Salvation (never even saw Genysis), the bar is so low it won't take much to be better.

Genysis was terrible. I'm fine with this being a new direct sequel to T2. Sarah Connor looks great. I'm still confused about John Connor's absence. Music for the trailer sucked but that's about the only bad thing I can think of. Day 1 for me.

It's being speculated that John dies some time between 2 & 6. There is an actor playing a young John Connor, but the film is setting up a new savior of humanity.

T2 was supposed to stop Judgement Day. So Jon could literally not matter at all and it would be fine. Or he's in there doing other stuff and just don't wanna spoil his role yet.

If we've learned anything from the series of films and the tv series Judgement day is more or less inevitable. As more and more people/terminators jump back the date and exact specifics of how it comes about change but the day still comes. Events of 1 created John but sped things up which led into the events of 2. 3 Got jump started by the T-X jumping back (though looks like they were strongly on their way). Don't think 4 went much into Jday. 5 got almost launched by another last ditch terminator time travel. The series changed Jday and the people involved multiple times. It's part of why we need John for after because lets face it Sarah was badass enough on her own if she was still around. Speaking of given she's old now it's clear she didn't die from cancer so I'd say it's plausible she can lead humanity. But yeah they could be keeping hush about him considering how horribly they spoiled him last time

Couldn't they just go the route of John died, but because he died, this girl grows up to lead humanity instead and now SkyNet is now trying to kill her, thus showing while judgment day is inevitable, so is humanity winning the war. /shrug
