Does the difference in lighting between the environments and the characters set anyone else off? You got these incredibly detailed and lit locations, and then characters that are rendered like they're dolls and lit like they have an ambient light nearby that doesn't exist for the environment. They don't feel like they belong.

There is a definite doll-like quality to the characters. Some have referenced it as Uncanny Valley, but I'm not quite sure it's that. It's possible these are all just alpha screenshots and some final passes still need to be made relative to how light affects character models, but I guess we'll see.

With Square doing their own conference this year, I would honestly be surprised if anything in their pipes isn't shown at E3 this year.

Not gonna speculate on the battle system or the story but I really appreciate the throwbacks they do to their other titles so I'm hoping for some cool nods to other characters in the series.

Also the post-game dungeons are probably just as, if not more to Tri-Ace RPGs and I'm kinda hoping for a throwback megaboss a.l.a Lenneth and Freya. Shit I'd be cool fighting an H.D version of Indalecio/Gabriel Limiter off in H.D. Guy was a damn bastard if you didn't know how to fight him.

Also a remix of this song and I'd be content.


I usually don't fanboy over games but this series is what made me really get into RPGs. PS1 era was practically the best era for it.

4 fantastic science fiction games! all of space is the "Star ocean" and a loosely related story between them all. Pick up the first once, whether you emulate it on SNES or pick up the new GBA remake, i personnaly prefer the original but thats just because i played it before the remake. I started the series at two, so if you cant play one, pick up two. And just because you beat it once doesnt mean the game is done, you can replay it at a higher difficulty because the next time you play, you can take a different path and recruit different secret characters. (Usually picking up one secret character locks you out of taking another)
