I have my 980 SC OC'd higher than that. Guess its all about the extra VRAM

  3. #143

the higher score is not coming from the extra vram its coming from
2816 Cuda cores vs 2048 CUDA cores allowing for a texture fill rate of
159GT/s on the 980 SC and 194GT/s on the 980 TI
the 980 ti can effectively pushing pixels at 1.22 times the rate of the 980 sc

yup and I plan to go 4K soon enough, which is the main reason I got it for ~

Also heavily modded games with hentai patches use more vram /nod

Semi surprisingly, FFXIV in mor dhona only uses about 2.5 GBish Vram at mor dhona max settings so its not bad. My X-rated skyrim uses about 4GB itself so....!

Skyrim mods tend to be stupid on that though; dealing with 8k textures in some cases

Got to have that high quality nakedness ! O_o

Randomly for those that may be wondering... a single 980 Ti is pretty much a constant 60FPS+ in a 24man raid at 4K with everything maxed while fighting stuff(even FXAA/AA 16X for the hell of it)

you have a 4k monitor already?

    which?

also, from far back, your chocobo macro icon looks like a squirrel taking a dump

Using DSR atm so I can fake 4K on a 2560x1440 monitor which is kind of annoying since I'd have to go one of 2 ways...
    1. Play fullscreen
    2. DSR my desktop to 4K to borderless window...

windows 7 + 4K = menus and stuff act weird if I resize and if left at default, the font size is like 2.

Anyway main thing I wanted to get at some points an actual 4K monitor and windows 10 so I can have normal looking menus/fonts at 4K. DSR is nice and all but... funky stuff can happen too going either way like taking a screenshot will often crash things, I was surprised FFXIV could even take a pic. Other programs, like photoshop/fireworks/ms paint etc see my "printscreen" screenshot as a black screen. Looking to get that IPS Gsync 4K if its not obscene pricing.

Randomly surprised you don't know about DSR, I think most any Nvidia card back to the 4XX series can do it (if your feeling crazy) and can take 1080P to 4K2K res (tried it once on my 670 GTX... (was really bad) >.>

I picked up the BenQ 32" 4k (3840x2160 really) BL3201PT for "4K" use alongside with a reference 980 Ti, I haven't done anything significant in XIV yet (no motivation), but everything else thus far has been smooth at that resolution.

I know about DSR, I just never used it enough to be familiar with it. Didnt notice that much of a difference vs the performance hit. DSR was my guess though.

Finally got done with my first system rebuild! I've never done anything like this before and learned a ton along the way. It took almost 2 weeks because of my lack of foresight.

I was rebuilding a 3-4 year old HP computer with a i7 2600 and a 550 card. I got this 970 Card. I realized immediately after getting the card my power supply wasn't enough so I got a 850watt. Plugged everything in and the PC wouldn't boot. Turns out the 970 wouldn't work with the HP motherboard. So I got a new motherboard a few days later and did the swap. Long story short I went from never opening a PC to swapping an entire motherboard and processor, putting in a new GPU, new power supply and pair of SSDs!

Scored 11000 on the benchmark at max settings, 1920/1080. Night and day compared to the old set up.

Decided my old G73JH laptop wasn't going to cut it for HW, and I had the new system itch... so I did that.
