The 3DS version will have a new scenario, new party members in the form of a female thief named Garda and Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road‘s Morrie, full voice-overs, music by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and support for the handheld’s StreetPass feature.

If this gets an English release before 7 does, 7 will never come over.

With how well 8 was received stateside, that is a big possibility.

i conceded long ago that 7 3DS will never happen in the US, but this seems like it could have a shot at finding a domestic release. i'd be completely ok with playing 8 again.

Wonder if this is the trade off for it not being on the New 3DS. Still fine with it either way. The game doesn't benefit from 3D really.

It doesn't even match the PS2 version's visuals to start with. Am wondering how quick and dirty of an enhanced port this is since the game wasn't doing anything technically demanding on the PS2 to my recollection.

I could really go for 7 since I never played that, but that ship has sailed.

I actually remember DQ8 pushing the PS2 pretty hard for its time. It had really good draw distance and the world seemed active at all times. Granted, this could be nostalgia goggles talking because Level 5 did such an amazing job on the quality of the game.

I didn't expect this to be a visually stunning port like the PS2 game was. Just as long as it isn't eye jarringly terribad and plays smoothly. I'm also ok with it because with all the DQ side stuff and remakes recently, I fully expect DQ11 (or some offline version of X) at E3. That gives the Enix group at SE a pass for now.

New Features

Full-Voice Support – The first fully-voiced numbered entry in the Dragon Quest series.
New Characters – A female thief named Gerda and Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road‘s Morrie have been added to the party.
New Scenarios – New episodes have been added focus on Dhoulmagus’ past, as well as the protagonist’s childhood.
StreetPass Support – Details to be announced a later date.

New Characters

Gerda (voiced by Hitomi Nabatame) – A bandit and an old friend of Yangus. As a thief, she uses her nimble movements to run circles around monsters.
Morrie (voiced by Joji Nakata) – The owner of the Monster Arena and organizer of the Monster Battle Road. Given how skilled he is in dealing with monsters, he might even be able to fight by summoning monsters.
