Yep.
No, he was a character in the book. A very important character that could have been cast by anyone in their 20 somethings.
It seems like they tried to take a character who was supposed to be introvert-autist physicist and make him quirky but amusing and charming.
One thing autistic physicists are not is charming.
IMO they could have just rolled that whole character intoSpoiler: show
I loved how he thought that director of NASA needed a scientific model and used a stapler to explain something that's been used countless times in science fiction and non fiction films. that was pretty autistic if you ask me.
Yeah, that part was a little painful... isn't exactly a new or unheard of concept, particularly not in movies/TV.
I still remember Farscape episodes from ~'99 that were cheesing up the whole 'zomg, we're gonna slingshot ourselves with the gravity of the planet!' bit. Not that I disliked the use of the concept in The Martian (particularly in the way the book handled it), but that whole stapler thing was a bit much.
Or in, you know, basic college level mechanics class.
A class that one would hope the director of NASA has taken at some point in their life.
bruce willy used the moon to slingshot at the meteor so affleck could drill a nuke into it. Armageddon forever you guys
Just got home from watching it. It's the first movie I've ever watched where the 3D did not feel like an obnoxious gimmick. Instead, I felt immersed in the experience of being in the hab with matt damon starring matt damon featuring matt damon in matt damon matt damon. Seriously though, I was taken back with how well the 3D was implemented here and would certainly recommend watching it in the format.
I don't know, guy was plenty autistic and pretty much how some of those people act. They could have rolled that into another character, but the others had their own parts to play and they probably didn't want people going "Oh sure sure, this ONE person has all these answers and observations"
I was fully expecting some random meteor to fly by and hit someone in the head during that final rescue scene.
Just caught this, packed theater godamn. So good.
Jessica Chastain: "I made less than a quarter" of what was reported for 'The Martian' http://huff.lv/1VWTh46
yeah, she was a supporting cast...
if it was sandra bullock as the martian then maybe
Spoilering my question, just to be safe.
