It's not more money to the devs/publishers if they make notably fewer sales by going EGS exclusive, which is what's going to happen until EGS can establish itself as a serious competitor to steam that consumers don't hate.

They only way publishers are getting ahead, or breaking even with EGS right now is the piles of cash Epic is paying them to not put their games on other storefronts.

You say that they're getting lower sales from joining EGS as if you've seen their sales numbers and estimates, and conclusively concluded they lost money lol. It's just as likely they made more money, especially when you consider EGS is paying them for exclusivity, or giving them more % back to maintain exclusivity for a short while.

I'm not necessarily going to fault publishers for taking a deal from Epic depending on whatever the payout is. Making a profit in the gaming industry is an incredibly volatile shit show. If Epic is giving you a guaranteed payday, you're fully within your rights to consider it.

And it's really not hard to comprehend that EGS has a smaller user base then Steam. A couple months ago Epic touted having 85 million total users (i.e. the total number of people who've made an account) whereas Steam has over 1 billion total users and sees 90 million+ active users EVERY month. Smaller user base = less sales. The math is simple.

And logic as well it seems, cause even if sales are lower on egs, which you do not know as a fact, the fact of the matter is the publisher is not going to egs exclusively if they're losing out on money compared to listing on both steam and egs. The logic is simple. If you guys want to argue that they move less units, I wont argue that cause I just dont know, but moving less units doesnt mean you made less money on your game.

The last time they sent out something about the backer survey was in the fall. But, there was an email to backers last week about system requirements that clearly stated Steam instead of Epic.

Epic store exclusivity is a 1 year agreement. Epic and the developer are assessing the situation and will make a statement to backers about options at a later time.
