My wife is actually interested in this one. I need to check out the minimum specs to make sure her PC can run it. I think it looks like a fun time waster we can play together that isn't too deep to intimidate more casual/noob gamers.

This is a Game Pass game. You can play it on PC through the Xbox Market (or whatever it's called). If you don't have Gamepass already, there's a 14 day free trial and you should be able to play it for 14 days to try it out.
So... this is basically No Man's Sky but with multiplayer and a pirate skin?
It's a loot based game with no character progression or story. Everything you can buy is cosmetic. There are 4(?) enemy types; Snakes, Skeletons, Sharks, & Kraken. It's a fun game to watch being streamed, but it doesn't seem like something that is going to stick around for more than a handful of months.
"Months" may be a bit optimistic tbh
I was tempted to buy this a couple nights ago. Glad I didn't =X
Sadly we are at a point when anyone who buys a game at launch at full price is a sucker who is paying full price for a game that is still in the testing phase :/
I watch it for the beautiful water. That's about it.

Dev Team is having Issues with the game's Online Stability
https://www.dualshockers.com/sea-of-...essues-update/One of the issues players have been saying are delays in unlocks and rewards. While this was improved and optimized server-side, there is still some work to be done.
Achievements have been temporarily deactivated during the weekend to free up some server bandwidth and allow everyone to actually play, but it doesn’t mean that they aren’t being tracked, and you’ll get all of them tomorrow when the servers come back up after the client update. There is still more work to do on this front as well, and the team plans to complete it by the end of the week.
The team feels that they are “in a good place” about people being able to log in, but they’re continuing to monitor the issue. They’re seeing two-three times as much concurrency compared to what they’ve seen before. What was high concurrency before is the “new normal.”
There have been some isolated instances of data getting overwritten closer to the game’s launch, and players affected should get in touch with support so that their case can be looked at individually.
Earlier yesterday the game was unavailable to XBox Game Pass subs.
Seeing that Rare is making a new fresh game makes me feel happy, but im worried that everyone will forget this game soon sorta how No Man's Sky was.
Jesus fuck.
Future Content Details
https://www.engadget.com/2018/04/15/...ntent-refocus/The first wave of new material arrives in May, including The Hungering Deep (which focuses on a "new AI threat" and a special event) as well as weekly events that bring "new mechanics" and rewards. In the summer, you'll get both a new ship type through Cursed Sails as well as a new region in Forsaken Shores. Both of those later updates will once again toss in new gameplay dynamics, AI enemies and rewards.
https://techraptor.net/content/rare-...hip-types-moreIn the summer, another major update, Cursed Sails, will introduce a new ship type to Sea of Thieves. Like Hungering Deep, Cursed Sails will also have its own end-game boss of a sort, but the main draw of Cursed Sails will be the expanded variety of ships that you can encounter from both a functional and cosmetic standpoint.
Forsaken Shores is the last, and perhaps most ambitious, named content update for Sea of Thieves. In addition to a new area to explore, Forsaken Shores will introduce new gameplay mechanics, new enemies to fight, and new rewards to claim that are “themed to that part of the world.”
In the fall and winter, there will be three more major updates for Sea of Thieves, but the nature of these updates have yet to be revealed.
In between all of these aforementioned major updates, weekly events will be introduced into the game as a means for players familiarize themselves with things like new mechanics and locations, or to encourage people to explore existing content. Such weekly events can be as simple as new trading company missions or helping an NPC recover a chest from a location that you would have no reason to explore otherwise. However, these weekly events can also be used to let players experiment with things like cursed cannonballs or some other new items that can create more conflict or cooperation between different crews.
