I was curious about ranged classes, so I had been toying with an Hunter and a Mage, and I was wondering how behind the Mage is in terms of soloing Elites / exploring hard zones.
I'm not talking about soloing old raids, but more about questing difficult zones at max level.
As an example, my DK can approach almost anything but my Warrior can't - unless high gear comes into play.
What spec are you using for warr? My prot warr can do about anything, self heals on him are real solid. As for ranged, if you play it right you can do about anything. Hunter still has a pet to tank and can kite, not sure about mage but I'm sure they have some slow/freeze so they could kite if needed as well.
I haven't tried 7.0 Protection Warrior yet, but didn't see much in terms of self heals while browsing talents. A lot of damage mitigation, but nothing similar to how DKs can spam death strike and get along with it.
I could be wrong though - or better - I hope I'm wrong because I really enjoy warrior-ing.
Oh yes, tried Second Wind for Arms and I guess it's nice to lower downtimes between mobs but won't help during fight.
Fire mage has shit for survialibility. Not sure about Arcane, but I'd imagine that frost is as annoyingly survivable as ever.
Victory Rush -> Impending Victory for Prot Warriors. That's their only self-heal.
Paladins have the spammable self-heal. It's pretttty nice. Warriors can take VERY low damage if you're weaving Shield Block and Ignore Pain together properly.
Firemage still has Ice Barrier (70k shield for me) and Ice Block (30% heal). The latter being a talent you have to take.
Not that it compares to other classes, but its something.
If it's like WoD, frost mages aren't that much more durable. Has some "oh shit" options to run away if you get in over your head, but anything with a lot of health that hits hard and is immune to freeze will tear through ice barrier and there's not enough sustainability compared to classes like Druid or Rogue.

DH's Vengeance seems to be the king of soloing shit, now.
After the nerfs to self-healing overall, Monk/Paladin (and DK to a lesser extent) have a much rougher time staying alive. I don't play Warrior or Druid, but I don't see anything in their kits that would make me think that they have it any better.
Frost DK is surprisingly durable in old content, if one takes the melee-damage-into-shield talent, due to how inflated damage is. For some things it's more sturdy than Blood.
Does it release tonight (technically tomorrow) at 3 am EST? I think that's what I read but I can't remember how the last launch went. I also don't remember it being that late but I also wasn't working back then.
