Serebii at least will be all over any JP beta info that gets out.
Really, really looking forward to this- and even if I understand why, disappointed the March infodump didn't happen.

What a waste of a master ball ._.
What i want is to challenge a random guy i cross in the street in a pokemon match MAKE IT HAPPEN
I was hoping this had a chance, but it might be one of those things where its a great idea with poor execution. I'm starting to get less hyped and more worried, but time is on their side.
I don't mind driving to a lake to get a squirtle, seems kinda cool, but going to monuments or special spots seems kind of far fetched in a lot of places and a lot unfair to anyone that lives outside of NYC unless they can balance appropriately. I wanna fight people too, and I want to cheat the walking thing on a treadmill.
This does seem really Japan-centric. Japan is smaller than California, the travel time even from Kyushu to Hokkaido isn't as ridiculous as having to go from the middle of Iowa to the Pacific Ocean or what have you. Japan has a little bit of everything everywhere within fairly easy reach - mountains, countryside, lakes and ocean. Plus, landmarks within easy walking/local train distance of most places. So of course this game is going to go over well in Japan.
I can't really imagine this working that well in many other countries unless they take a lot of liberties with the design so far, and take into heavy consideration the kind of travel would be required for people living in certain places. For example, America is built on needing a car to get around, unless you're lucky enough to live in the rare city that has adequate public transportation. Kids, who the game is partially aimed at, aren't going to be able to travel around freely to collect pokemon if it requires great distances.
I do like the thought that Pokemon Go might get people doing some crazy traveling they might not otherwise do, and I know if the game takes off we're gonna see people taking video of themselves doing really ridiculous things to catch pokemon (like climbing a volcano or something idk). But if the game's core mechanics aren't implemented well, I doubt it'll take off like that. I really, really, really hope the end product is as cool as they made it out to be in the beginning.
Some new leaked information
http://nintendoinquirer.com/blog/201...d-field-tests/There will be no battles against wild Pokémon, instead you simply catch them directly using various Poké Balls.
Trainers are customizable with different options.
137 different attack names have been found in the game’s code, confirming battle systems. Some of the moves include Flamethrower and Hyper Beam.
There are an additional 95 “fast” versions of the discovered 137 attacks.
Players will receive a starter Pokémon, though in the beta version this does not happen.
A new game function with the name “Starburst” has been discovered – details surrounding it are unknown.
References to Google Cardboard, a mobile VR peripheral, have been found within the game’s data.
There are three “teams” the player can join: Red Team, Blue Team, or Yellow Team.
Only first generation Pokémon exist in the beta; it’s unclear if this will be the case for the final version of the game.
There are multiple versions of the defense stat, though the reasoning behind this is unclear.
There are seven object categories: Poké Ball, Potion, Revive, Maps, Battle Objects, Food, and Camera. Food and Camera details are unspecified.
The following items are the only ones available in the beta: Poké Ball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, Master Ball, Potion, Super Potion, Hyper Potion, Max Potion, Max Revive, X Attack, X Defense, X Miracle, Razz Berry, Bluk Berry, Nanab Berry, Wepear Berry, Pinap Berry, and Special Camera.
X Miracle is a new item. Its effects are unknown as of right now.
Pokémon Natures are present, but differ from the main games. Currently, the ones found are: Stoic, Assassin, Guardian, Raider, Protector, Sentry, and Champion. Their roles are currently unknown.
Microtransactions are available.
A day-night cycle is confirmed.
Normal, Legendary, and Mythical Pokémon are all present, and Pokémon are categorized as such.
There is no evidence of Mega Evolution, however it’s unknown if this is only true for the beta.
Supposedly, Pokémon are only allowed two moves during Gym Battles.

If you don't fight wild pokemon...then what do you do?
probably a collector game where the goal is just to catch em all?
Find them, throw 6 pokeballs until one works, then battle it by setting up a "gym" which is probably something automated and nothing like the games.
Wow. This game sounds wack now.
