Honestly, I don't think Bernier was that bad last night but obv his overall year has been shit and he has horrid luck, so ppl are shitting on him no matter what.

First goal, you'd like him to save it but Phaneuf pinched hard and got burnt, it's an odd man break, hard save to make.
Second goal is 10000% Reilly's fault imo, he fumbled an easy pass right in front of Bernier, you can only HOPE TO GOD, he somehow saves it, he didn't.
Third goal is on a PP, Ovi slapshot, bounced off like 40 ppl and in, nothing he could do.
Fourth goal, like the first, you would like him to save it, but on the PP again, slap shot on the rush, hard to fault him.

The leafs were crushing the Caps in the first, but couldn't finish and eventually penalties helped the Caps re-take and push the lead. Kadri high stick was iffy, but it was close, don't get your stick close to a guy's face or deal with it. The other two were obvious, one actually saved a goal though.

The first goal Dion took responsibility for in the post-game interview, but that's still a shot Bernier has to stop. The second one was all Rielly, the third one was impossible and the fourth one he probably should have had but it wasn't as bad as the first one.

In six of his nine starts this season, Bernier has let in a goal in the first 10 minutes of the game. In his nine starts this season the Leafs have outshot their opponents in the first period 105 to 63. On those 63 shots Bernier has posted a SV% of 0.881.

Last night was not his worst performance and even had he stopped that first shot from Chimera (only the Caps' second shot of the game at that point...) we probably still would have lost even though we played all right. But he's been God-awful all season and his horrendous starts trend back well into last season, so nobody is going to give him the benefit of the doubt any more.

They already have amongst the worst PDO in the league (it's the Y-axis in that chart); I think they will likely climb back up actually.
