Let's be realistic, please.
For me, if I don't want to deal with my hair, I can comb it and throw it into a bun within minutes.
For many of them, their hair is hard to maintain, and you are basically saying they should be forced to spend a ton of money to maintain it. Studies have shown that it's hard to get a job with natural black hair:

So yes they encouraged to straighten their hair to look more like white people hair. Natural black hair for some types are going to want to dread, and they can spend forever trying to comb it all out. And some go get braided for the look, and they don't have to deal with the constant maintenance otherwise. Braiding btw, is often a whole day affair.
If it took me forever to comb my hair every single morning, you bet I would want an alternative.
