Picking out winter boots is hard, guys.
I want at least an 8" boot that can withstand at least -20F and waterproof. It's surprisingly difficult to find that. 200G seems to be the sweet spot for boot makers, but doesn't necessarily hit the temp rating I'm looking for depending on who you listen to.
LL Bean Wildcat - Actual 400G insulation, uggo
Sorel Caribou I posted earlier - No insulation rating, just temp rating which is iffy
KEEN Targhee High - Actually only 200G, but well rated
North Face Chilkat Evo - Again, 200G but well rated
Columbia Bugaboot Plus IV - 200G again.
Where do you live, Pluto?
My buddy went to Antarctica and just wore some Rocky duty boots lol.
I had no clue people gave their winter boots this much thought

Mid Hudson Valley.
New Years Day it was -19F plus windchill and it was fucking terrible. Never again. My winterized SBs did okay for me in the Bronx, and for what they were, but they get water logged and cold pretty quick if I'm actually in the snow.
I like to take the dogs out into the woods across the street on quiet, snowy days when I can. Plus we take trips up to VT every year (or at least try, wife was pregnant last winter) for outdoor stuff (hiking, snowboarding). All my other winter gear is basically for upper mountain snowboarding; Gore Tex, waterproof, and insulated. Would be counter-intuitive to not get something of the same quality.
If ya'll lazy fucks are just walking around sidewalks all winter there's not much thought to it. If you're hiking in the woods in 20"+ of snow you'll want something warm and waterproof on your feet.
Wool socks too, don't use cotton socks in cold weather. Wool keeps your feet warm even when wet, cotton will suck the heat right out of your feet if they get wet.
As an example, the last time my wife and our friends rented a house in VT it snowed the day my wife and I arrived and all day the next day. We got like 3' of snow. Everyone decided to skip the mountain as they had been there a day or two already, head into town early to stock up on booze and food, then we trekked into the woods until we found a spot with some fallen logs and drank beers in the woods half the day. The other half was still spent outside, but in the yard of the house where we dug out their fire pit and built a nice fire.
10 hours outside in the snow, you want warm gear.
EDIT: It was a good thing we went early too. My friend and I decided to go out after the first run and as we got to the entrance/exit for Killington everyone was leaving the mountain (around 10-11am?). There were multiple people getting stuck on the uphill towards Rutland so we ended up turning around and going back to the house. I think they forgot breakfast stuff the first time.
Might be relevant for you shoe nerds

Hells yeah, W on one of the Goretex AF1s (wanted the lows more then the other ones, snagged em in black)
Edit : looks like only the White Highs were hyped, the black highs and lows are still just sitting there on Nike's website.
Fuck it got the Black highs too, gonna be an AF1 Winter
Can't tell me nuffin'!
Definitely the most comfortable things I've ever put on my feet.
Very nice stairs I’ll give you that
Is that the $3000 stair runner?
LMAO!
3k on the stairs, but he buys his shoes from that one makeshift stand behind the metro /eyeroll
