Alaska was the only state that Walmart sold hand guns in. They will no longer sell hand gun ammo, .223, or .556 also emphasis on ask

San Francisco has declared the NRA - by extension also all of its members - a domestic terrorist organization.

They are also proposing legislation to bar individuals and entities affiliated with the city and county from doing business with or affiliating with the NRA.

Now if only the rest of the country would follow suit.

I hope this means we can get most of pro-gun social media banned. I mean these platforms have come out vehemently opposed to terrorist organizations utilizing them right?

But Dan Bongino said criminals don't care about (your) [gun] laws. They'll acquire their weapon somehow anyway and therefore "gun legislation" only affects law abiding citizens negatively.

The DoJ is demanding Google & Apple handover the names of all of the people who downloaded an app called Obsidian 4. The app is used for scope calibration for rifles and also allows users to livestream.

According to an application for a court order filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on September 5, investigators want information on users of Obsidian 4, a tool used to control rifle scopes made by night-vision specialist American Technologies Network Corp. The app allows gun owners to get a live stream, take video and calibrate their gun scope from an Android or iPhone device. According to the Google Play page for Obsidian 4, it has more than 10,000 downloads. Apple doesn’t provide download numbers, so it’s unclear how many iPhone owners could be swept up in this latest government data grab.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) department is seeking information as part of a broad investigation into possible breaches of weapons export regulations. It’s looking into illegal exports of ATN’s scope, though the company itself isn’t under investigation, according to the order. As part of that, investigators are looking for a quick way to find out where the app is in use, as that will likely indicate where the hardware has been shipped. ICE has repeatedly intercepted illegal shipments of the scope, which is controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), according to the government court filing. They included shipments to Canada, the Netherlands and Hong Kong where the necessary licenses hadn’t been obtained.

NRA sues calling the action "McCarthyist" and keeps people from speaking out against gun control or associating with the NRA.

Virginia's bid to ban assault-type weapons, suppressors, & magazines that hold more than 12 rounds has failed. Four democrats sided with the republicans to defeat the bill.

Four Democrats on Virginia's Senate Judiciary Committee broke ranks with their party handing the Republican minority a victory in tabling the bill for the remainder of the year. It also sent the measure to the state's Crime Commission for further review.

Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, had championed the legislation, which was part of a series of eight gun-control measures the Virginia House passed earlier this year. The seven remaining bills are still being considered in the state Senate.
    https://www.virginiamercury.com/2020...sh-it-to-2021/

Sen. Creigh Deeds, D-Bath, suggested postponing consideration of the bill for a year and having the Virginia State Crime Commission study its definitions of what qualifies as an assault weapon. Deeds was joined by three other Democrats — Sens. Chap Petersen, D-Fairfax, Scott Surovell, D-Fairfax, and John Edwards, D-Roanoke — in voting for the motion to continue the bill to 2021.

“We passed a lot of gun bills this year,” Deeds said. “There are obviously a lot of questions about definitions in this bill. And definitions do matter.”

The bill would have defined assault weapons as any semi-automatic rifle or pistol with a fixed magazine capacity of more than 12 rounds or a semi-automatic weapon capable of accepting a detachable magazine that has one or more additional military-style characteristics, such as a folding or telescoping stock, a second grip, a grenade or flare launcher or a silencer. The bill would have applied to shotguns with revolving cylinders or a fixed magazine capacity of more than seven rounds.

Gun sales have seen their biggest spike since Sandy Hook.

“We have seen over the past week hundreds of thousands, even millions, of Americans choosing to exercise their right to keep and bear arms to ensure their safety and the safety of loved ones during these uncertain times,” Lawrence Keane of the National Shooting Sports Foundation said.

Apparently the surge in gun sales, along with body armor and other forms of protections, was sparked by “prepper” types looking to safely ride out the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s really just a matter of, if things go bad in the next couple weeks to couple of months and people are panicking and rioting and looting, the government and the police will not have the ability to protect us,” one gun shopper explained to NPR.

In another boost for the industry this week, the Trump administration, after lobbying by the NRA, ruled that gun shops are “essential” businesses that should remain open even as other businesses remain closed to try to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Canada has banned 1,500 types of assault-style rifles.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement on Friday, noting it is now illegal to buy, sell, transport, import, or use “military-grade assault weapons” in Canada.

“These weapons were designed for one purpose and one purpose only: to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time,” Trudeau said.

Trudeau said there is a two-year amnesty period for owners of banned weapons and that a buyback program will be legislated. Gun owners will be able to export the prohibited weapons if they have an appropriate permit.

Gun owners shouldn’t attempt to surrender newly banned guns to police during this COVID-19-related physical distancing period, he added.

Public Safety Minister Bill Blair addressed law-abiding Canadian gun owners, saying that the new regulations won’t interfere with “lawful” activity.

While he said assault-style weapons may have some recreational value, “these powerful weapons become deadly weapons when they fall into the right hands.”
Red-flag laws will be the next step so law enforcement has an option to seize weapons from persons who are suicidal, involved in domestic violence, or “advocating hate” against religious minorities and women..

They used the wording of the bill to basically ban anything they determine looks visually ominous. You can still buy a semi-automatic carbine that works exactly like the AR-15, just without the scary military style design.

Seems political to me, though don't particularly care either way, getting firearms out of the public domain is good in any amount.
