8-Part Miniseries
BBC America will air Doctor Who spinoff series Class in the United States in 2016, the network announced today at the Television Critics Association.

Class was announced earlier this year as a new series airing on BBC Three in the UK. The eight-part series comes from Patrick Ness, author of the young adult novel series A Monster Calls. The series is executive produced by Doctor Who’s Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin.

“I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself,” said Ness. “I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your exams.”

Class will follow students at Coal Hill Secondary School, a school with a history in Doctor Who lore. Several of the Doctor’s past companions have been employees of the school, and his granddaughter was a pupil. The Doctor himself has even been involved with the school at time.
