uninstalling an extra OS on laptop

    Greetings,

I'm at a friend's house visiting and doing a lot of tech work for their computer/laptops. At present, I have a laptop that used to belong to his dad that was given to his is son. I guess he tried to reformat or something, so he could start from scratch, but now he has 2 installations of win7 on it. when the laptop starts there is a bios like screen where i am given the choice to choose from win7 or win7. His son is 12 and i really don't want him to have to worry about this, how can i remove or uninstall just 1 of these?

Remove it in msconfig and don't do anything else if I were you:

    Start > Run > msconfig
    hit enter

On the "boot tab" you can select/delete etc the OS. The current one would be mentioned saying "default OS current OS"
delete the bad one and call it a day.

I assume you know which one works (unless they both work).

Sweet, thanks guys. I am taking the simple route atm mentioned by the Stig. As I do some other stuff on the laptop, if there seems to be an issue I will look into Ratatapa's suggestion. i appreciate the help

If you need to reclaim space then Rata's guide should help for sure.

Otherwise I suggest to do nothing in case somehow it breaks. If a 12 year old doesn't know better then there's no need to go all in.

This is of course subject to yourself, if it's a real good friend and you don't mind playing tech support. I'm just personally lazy these days.

Hah, well space won't be an issue for the kid. His dad mainly wants it for his son so he can play mine craft and sw:tor. He's also a very by the rules kid so he won't be attempting to modify or screw with much else on the laptop.
