I noticed you guys evaporate the second water pillar with Fire Beam both times. Is that intentional or did it just pan out like that because only one appears to be necessary for Ultra Flash?

I'm presuming A5S is tuned around full i220 Midas Normal gear as the base. So are most of the first clear groups sitting in full 220 fully melded crafted, or are the DPS/HP checks able to be met with a mix of 210 gear and select crafted pieces melded with VIT?
Most of the first clear groups are going to be in full 220 melded gear just to give themselves the best odds; but yes, you can complete AS5 with a gordian - eikon crafted piece poverty setup.
Having better DPS does make the fight go a lot more smoothly in terms of managing the adds and elixir mechanics however, so if your group isn't totally opposed to farming Seph EX at the least I would recommend that as a first step.
In terms of DPS/VIT checks, A5S should definitely be doable in full i210 even if your group isn't great, but getting through Faust would be another story.
Not sure why they put such an arbitrary DPS wall in front of a fight that has no DPS requirements. I guess they had to gate things somehow?
I think they thought Faust was supposed to be somehow related to the fact that the boss in A5S takes less damage while big. But either way, Faust is a much harder check than the fight itself.

It might be a general precursor to more than AS5. No other turn has such DPS checks, so it's a good way of saying "Come back when you have improved" instead of getting people's hopes up.
What's up with the scouting boots dropping in A7s, like we can see in the Elysium kill SS? I assume it's because getting 2 pairs of pants/kill would be a bit ridiculous, so instead it's 1x pans + 1x other random head/gloves/feet which normally drop from 6, to gate gear a little bit more. Which kinda makes sense I guess.
