It would be funny if Powerman submitted something in this:

This is my personal favorite genre of music, and I am old enough to live through when it was currently popular. LOL
Anyone that is trying to claim that this is some kind of copyright violation has two problems. One, they don't understand copyright when it comes to music. Two, they don't know music.
I can think about 10 bands that this is more derivative from than PM5K. And if SE would violate PM5K's copyright for this, then pretty much everything that PM5K has done would be a copyright violation. LOL
SE needs to start copying Combichrist
Initially I was like "Man, this sounds like World's Collide just a bit" but then I was like "man.. this actually sounds like about six or seven different songs at once"
The thing is.. at least during the late 90s/early 2000s.. a lot of this genre of music sounded suuuper similar. So PM5K needs to quit the QQing.
I mean I hear it, I loved PM5k when i was a kid.
I hear more Trent Reznor in the seph theme tho honestly
Yup, I thought it was Powerman 5000. Can you guys link those songs that sound 'incredibly' similar to the one in question?
Butthurtman 5000
Powerbottom 5000
Reminds me of the whole Dragon Ball Z copyright stuff the composer was caught for. For those who haven't seen DBZ or at least the scene in question, the show used very few composed soundtracks that weren't just BGM for the most part. This song is one of the more memorable, as it plays when Trunks appears and kills Freeza, so it wasn't an insert song on a CD, it was in the actual show. This blew my mind:
You're talking about the Kenji Yamamoto scandal. I mean, there are so many examples in his case since he had such a long career that there are still new examples of plagiarized work surfacing.
http://www.kanzenshuu.com/features/k...retrospective/ has a bunch of examples.
The Budokai series getting new OSTs is probably the biggest kick in the childhood since so many of those stolen works were brilliant. It's no wonder dude stole them to begin with lol.
Just listened to the song. Pretty kick ass and I do get a "When Worlds Collide" vibe from it, but what the fuck, PM5K. Really?
It's extremely doubtful this will ever hold up in court as I doubt any judge would find that it meets the "substantially similar" criteria needed for copyright infringement in a case like this for the reasons Ringthree mentioned.
Imitation is the best compliment. I doubt anything is going to happen regarding the Sephirot theme.
