Toonami is proud to announce an original co-prodution with legendary studio, Production I.G, “FLCL” seasons 2 and 3!
That’s right, we are producing 12 new FLCL episodes to be split into two seasons, and serve as a sequel to the original classic, FLCL!

Yeah, but they have the original director on board, and ProdIG is no slouch on animation (Haikyuu! anyone?). And with Turner helping to pay for production the budget is probably good, not to mention it may end up with a synced JP/US release like Space Dandy.

Literally who has asked for this? This is pure nostalgia farming. This shit wasn't even popular in Japan it was just some one shot OVA blockfiller during deadtimes on tv.

Only good that can come from this is more fan art of the original series as people rewatch it and watch it for the first time, and more Ninamori.

2 of the original VA's are dead, Gainax is dead and gutted and all the original staff have moved on and are currently busy working on different projects, the story was completed so bringing back the old characters serves no purpose.

I am rather miffed.

Watching it on [AS] as an actual teenager was a treat. If they can recapture those same young person feels... it would be greatness.
The problem is they won't. Williams Street's Big O team will turn this into a turd sandwich. RIP Gainax.

Character Designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Rock Band The Pillows to Return for FLCL Sequel Series

Production I.G vice president and producer Maki Terashima-Furuta announced at the FLCL 2 panel at Anime Expo on Sunday that the first series' original character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will return to design the characters for the sequel. Terashima-Furuta additionally announced at the panel that Japanese rock band The Pillows will also return from the first season to handle the music for the sequel, and Psycho-Pass anime and film's chief director Katsuyuki Motohiro will supervise the series.
