I haven't posted in this thread this season despite having gotten back into baseball for the past couple years. I don't know why I just haven't. It's been a great season. When I say, "great season" I mean the Cubs of course. I'm not making ANY predictions about the postseason though. >.>

The whole thing was stupid but lol @Yankees commentary. Did Severino hit JD on purpose? I really doubt it. Can JD get pissed about it anyway? Yes. Should Happ have been ejected after hitting Headley? Probably. Did Severino need to throw at Justin Smoak (really? Of all people, Smoak?)? Definitely not. Should he have been ejected? Absolutely (after the first pitch fucking missed, don't let him try again what the fuck). Are the "warnings" handed out by umpires completely fucking meaningless? You bet your ass. Do Jays fans feel bad for the Yankees? Hell no, this exact same bullshit happened last year against ...Kansas? And Sanchez ended up being the only player ejected.
The Yankees commentators are right though, the pitch was inside and barely nipped JD's elbow, it happens all the time. Them going after Headley was ridiculous because you know Severino's pitch wasn't intentional so now the Yankees retaliate(Like any other team would), a brawl starts and now the Blue Jays have an injured player because of their stupidity.

This video shows the JD HBP and then the Blue jays go after Headley.

Then next half inning this happens

The reason Happ hit Headley was because the team gets pitched up and inside a ton and as a result they get hit a lot. (I think JD has been hit 9 times? Martin's been hit 10.) The team is frankly sick of being beaned, JD especially. The message being sent was if you're going to pitch them like that, you better not miss. And Benoit hurt himself coming out of the bullpen, not in the actual hug-fest.

Sure, its above the league average, but Cubs batters have been beaned almost twice as much.

I don't see how that matters. They don't like being pitched up and in. They will let teams know they don't like being pitched up and in. If teams don't like being told that, they can change their approach or they can have a brawl every game. Its the Jays job to win games, not to be liked by other teams. If they can make teams stop pitching them a certain way, good for them.

And now I'm sitting here wondering how the fuck Brandon Guyer has been hit 31 times this season.

Who does? On top of no one liking a 95+mph baseball flying at their head, its not a "power friendly" pitch to hit.
    http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/zack-...tching-inside/

For a team like the Blue Jays, who's primary source of production is the long ball, throwing pitches that statistically lead to having less power seems to be a smart move, no?

2016 MLB Regular Season Thread: I'm the Captain now

The only way to get pitchers to stop pitching up and in is to learn how to turn those pitches into base hits and not flyouts/strikeouts.

Getting into beanball wars is just going to get people hurt and/or suspended.

All the potential tiebreaker scenarios going into today, and we end up with NONE. Disappointing.

The Phillies have fired hitting coach Steve Henderson after finishing the season last in the majors in runs.

Henderson joined Philadelphia in 2012. The team was 71-91 this season and ranked 29th in the majors in batting average (.240), on-base percentage (.301) and slugging percentage (.385).

Six other coaches were asked to return in 2017. They include Larry Bowa (bench), Rick Kranitz (bullpen), Bob McClure (pitching), John McLaren (catching), Mickey Morandini (first base) and Juan Samuel (third base).
