Weren't the Braves competition ready just not even a few years ago? I remember seeing them in the playoffs not long ago, I might be forgetting idk. What they did to that team though, Christ....

Catcher Evan Gattis and minor league prospect James Hoyt were traded to the Houston Astros for minor leaguers Mike Foltynewicz, Rio Ruiz, and Andrew Thurman. A day before the season began, the Braves made a final trade involving former All- Star Craig Kimbrel and outfielder Melvin Upton Jr.

The team was barely playoff caliber with a barren farm system, so the organization made a strategic decision, with the Nats ascending into what looked to be a multi-year window of contention, to blow up the team to perform a multi-year rebuild rather than see a slow death as a mediocre team with no chance of winning the division.

We made out like bandits in all of the trades in Krandor's post so I was fine with the decision overall and very happy with each of those trades. The only trade I didn't like was my beloved Andrelton Simmons but I have already shed my tears for him.

tl;dr - blow up the team to hit rock bottom asap and perform a proper rebuild or see the team become mediocre. they chose the former and have done it very well

I don't know why we haven't traded him too tbh. Now he's coming off an injury and needs to rebuild his value if we're going to get acceptable value. Sucks for him he was chosen to be the one dude that didn't get traded.
