Edgars tells Homelander he (vought) was pardoned in '44 and basically left alone to his own devices. If the government had their own stock of compound V and division of super soldiers then the super terrorist storyline would have been radically different and there would've been no need for Vought to have received the military access and contracts.

It won't be 1:1, but this is the gist.

This first of the series' stand-alone miniseries chronicles the Boys as they sneak into Vought's secret, exclusive, annual superhero bacchanalia "Herogasm". Funded by the company on the premise of being a giant superhero battle to the public, the "heroes" spend a weekend at an island resort running wild and indulging in reckless debauchery: primarily, vast amounts of sex and the use of illegal drugs. Meanwhile, the Vought-owned Vice President joins the festivities, and the Boys learn more about the corporation's plans as they target a Secret Service agent to try to determine V-A's infiltration of the White House through Red River operatives placed in the Secret Service. The Homelander destroys an entire passenger jet on a whim, and is preparing to tell all the other heroes all about it as an example of their superiority over humanity, but he is cut short by Vought.

Late but just binged this throughout the weekend. Freaking love this show and need my season three fix.

Will probably hit up the comics. Should I read from the start or is there an issue I can jump to to continue the story?

I'd go from the start, it's pretty much all one long running storyline

Also the show is very much an adaptation/remix of the comics, not a 1:1 remake.

glad you got in on the show Xno, one of my favorite things on TV, but to be real the comics kinda suck

show adapts the hell out of the source material, adds depth to near every character, changes up the storyline considerably, and is much funnier. comics are filled to the brim with tryhard edgy teenage boy sensibilities, don't say nearly as much and don't say it as interestingly.
