    Security Cam Recommendation

I'm at a loss trying to find an indoor security cam that will best fit my needs. Hoping BG can give me a decent suggestion.

I don't care quite so much about live or continuous DVR video, mostly I want 1) email notification on motion detection with ether a handful of pictures or a short clip, 2) can save pictures or clips to a local NAS or machine. I don't need weeks of storage, just the ability to go back within a day or two and pull stuff off if something happens.

The subscription model of the Nest Cam makes it a non-starter for me, there's got to be something in the $150 range that can fill these fairly basic needs. I have a very old Foscam but it's motion detection is utter crap.

I appreciate any suggestions out there!

I know nothing about DIY home security but did sell systems for a company for a short period. So I apologize in advance for not being to help with your post, but my question for you (or anyone) is why would you use a DIY system that doesn't report to monitoring company over one that does?

For me there are several reasons. 1) I rent, 2) I'm moving in about 3 months, and 3) this isn't just generic intruder alerts, I have a fairly specific monitoring need.

The Java issues were related to remote management and setting up motion sensor zones that would have not been an issue on site had my wife told me earlier than literally the night before we left that she had bought the camera.

Basically; we hid the camera and pointed it at our front door but didn't want to record motion near the floor as our cats would be setting it off constantly and it was difficult to remotely turn off that "zone" on the camera.

I played around with tons of the settings and it was able to email video and audio clips any time the motion sensor went off; it also sent alerts when motion was detected so we could immediately hit the app and watch live, even though it was 99% of the time our cats walking around the living room.

tl;dr Worked great for my wife and me while we were 500 miles away.

I got this one a few months ago. The motion sensor is pretty reliable during the day, night time or dark rooms though require a fair amount of playing with the settings though. Quality is good, you can download the app for it too and view live whenever.

I don't sell the shit so idgaf what people buy. But I think it's stupid to not have a "security" system that reports to a central monitoring center. Rent? Who cares. Shit goes with you when you move. Moving? Same thing. Animals? Most motion detectors are 20+ lb and you set them where you want. Personally, I own two cats that are both 22+ so I get it. But, there are ways around it. "Specific Needs?" What, you housing illegals? gtfoh with that shit. If I personally felt the need to have home security I'd pay the $30 or so per month to have the equipment and have it reported to a monitoring center so if shit does pop off the cops are coming. Just my 2 cents.

Oh hush. You don't need to know my personal shit, but I've got legitimate reasons to need to check in on the place independently of an "intruder" situation. If I was looking for a full security system and monitoring service, I'd have asked for opinions on that.

Follow-up question. Looking for some furry costumes, rope, hot wax and a buttplug. Asking for a friend.

In all seriousness, went with the Amcrest. Aerin wins, and it is much appreciated!

Maybe a little late, but I've been using a Foscam 8910 for a couple years. I think Foscam makes Armcrest now (or vice versa?) so should be similar quality. I've been very happy with mine, it emails pictures on motion detection no problem.

For recording, you might want a third party software. I used iSpy for a while. It requires your PC always be on so the software can run. I've switched to a Linux software (ZoneMinder). Not because there was anything wrong with iSpy, in fact I think I liked it better, but I have a Linux file server running 24/7 so that saved me from also keeping my Windows PC on 24/7.

Edit: Just to clarify on the recording software. I know you don't need continuous DVR, but the software lets you get more granular on exactly what/when you want to record. So in addition to the emails you're getting, the software would handle saving video to your NAS better than the camera might, unless that model is a lot smarter than what I have.

I bought this kind of camera recently and as you know, When it comes to buying something online it can be a little overwhelming for me. For the past weeks, I’ve had the need of having a little more security around my house because being able to check what's going on at your home while you are out is priceless, that is why I’ve been trying to look for a whole security system for my house but I’ve found that there is such a wide variety of cameras that make the entire process harder. After watching some videos on Youtube and comparing quality with an affordable price I came across Dmzok security camera, it has excellent features for a reasonable price.

I am a woman, and I have to be honest I didn’t think I was going to be able to set it up, or even turn it on, but it turned out being an easier setup than I expected. I’m still trying to figure out where I’m going to locate it permanently but I did test it out and these were some of my impressions.

    It do have some disadvantage:

    1. Little bulky where it can be easily identified by the thief that there is a security camera in place.
    2. It does not support Loop recording where you need to clear the memory once it is full. Loop recording should have been

given for this camera which is must for all security devices even the car Dash cam has loop recording.

Overall this DMZOK security camera is a wonderful device. i would

definitely recommend this device to everyone if you choose to buy a security camera for you home.
