When I build my PC back in 2012 I fell balls deap for the Antec 900 case

Just finished building one for a friend and wow the cable management for this case is crazy clean. I couldn't believe it.

I just did a build in a phantek evolv glass. Absolutely amazing. Miss the sound reduction of my ft02 though. Even the kraken x61 is too loud for me, just gonna have to get used to it.

I've seen this case in the store before. It's definitely nice but so very unattractive

The Thermaltake? Yeah my friend just really liked it and for 54$ I wasn't gonna tell him no. What I like about it was just the cleanliness of it, with 2 hard drives and a video card, cables where almost not seen.

I've been using the Antec 900 since the fall of 2009 and it is an absolutely fantastic case. Today though I'd say there is better out there in terms of filters and front-panel USB3. That's the only improvements I'm looking for in my next build.

So this morning my PC seemed to be recieving zero power so I replaced my power supply, but now my monitor seems to not display anything. Scans for any connections, but it gets nothing and goes to sleep.

Everything has power now and seems to be running. Could there be a wire I missed or maybe I connected wrong that is causing this?

Try plugging the monitor to different ports on the video card. Also try another monitor/tv if that's an option. And try the onboard video if the mb has that too.

I'd check to make sure things are seated, and that you didn't miss the video card power connections (with how those can be split/etc it can be easy to not have it seated). I've also seen a machine or two try to boot off of USB drives and the behavior looked a lot like a video issue. May try unplugging those if you have any.

So Mom needs a new PC for word processing and general browsing. She does medical transcription for a doctor on the weekends and types the fuck out of reports on Word Perfect like 1 lol. She's using like a 15+ year old dell that is going to spontaneously combust any day now. Literally. She also does very basic web browsing, looking up recipes on that tasty facebook page and shit. She has a monitor, keyboard, etc just needs a new tower. I was looking at garbage refurbs and a few things from dell and other brands but for a few bucks more might build something super cheap.

Should I do something like this:

Or should I go the refurb route or even something else. Any chance you guys can save me a few bucks other than the obvious 3$ on an HDD? Dad pretty much is set on an i5 cause of seeing refurbs with it so I'm trying to at least sway him towards i3 but I doubt he'll move to anything other than that. Here's 2 examples of the refurbs.

I mean I gotta go with this shit, right? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883798914

Also, she absolutely refuses for some strange reason to use a laptop even with an external monitor and keyboard/mouse. No clue why, old people I guess?

That CPU can do dual-channel memory so I would still get two modules (2x2gb). Also, you can install Windows 7, crack it, and up it to Windows 10 if you wanted to save on the OS cost. That was supposed to end in July but apparently still works.

*edit* Sorry, missed the next post about the refurb. I would just do that, tbh.

    Question time.

So I got my parts ordered, everything hooked in, and everything seems to be running fine. LEDs showing up on my mobo, GPU, optical drive, etc. and the fans are running. However, once I connect my monitor to my GPU and set the input to DVI nothing comes up and the monitor says it can't get a signal. Any ideas?

EDIT: Fixed. Didn't noticed I didn't have one of the PSU wires plugged in.

Giving some serious thought to doing a build with this case, Thermaltake Core V21 Black Extreme Micro ATX:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133274

$40 after rebate and free shipping (ends tomorrow). Just to make sure I'm not missing anything, it looks like there is more than enough room for any existing 1070 (graphics card length is 350mm) and apart from not having a bay for an external cd/dvd/bluray I don't see any particular disadvantages.

    Thoughts?

  16. #476

I have the v21 case. Definitely fits an 1070 (I have an MSI gaming X)

It's a very nice case to work in, did a build with one a month or so back.

Cyberpower again with their tiny pcs. While I wasn't able to get their configurator to spit out as cheap a price as the poster on slickdeals, i was able to part together an i5 6600k with an asus 1070 blower style card for around $1000 base cost with the discount code (there's some stuff to modify, like unticking the $45 steam controller and such). The blower style gfx cards help small form factor cases at the cost of being a little noisier. The one big drawback is that it uses intel's default heatsink for the cpu with no option to upgrade it in the configurator, though it's not a huge problem unless you plan on overclocking. Can save more by going with amd gfx and other options, the configurator is pretty extensive.

    That's a pretty solid deal.
Just the CPU/GPU/Mobo/RAM/SSD/PSU is over 1200 without the rest of the bells and whistles.

The 10 series blowers are better made and aren't as loud as previous generations. Only gripe you may have is with overclocking it specifically but that's it really. Also depending on the case, it can also significantly reduce heat build up in sff cases.

That deal looks boss. It's too bad I can't recommend it to my cheap ass coworkers that are essentially looking for this level of build.
