Not build related persay, but if anyone hasn't heard about AMD's new mobile processor (the 4900 HS), it's an absolute monster. Substantially lower TDP/price and beats Intel's top of the line mobile shit in almost every benchmark.

Also in the laptop world, Nvidia finally figured out how to have Optimus and G-Sync work at the same time so that's something to look forward to if you're a big laptop guy like I am.

AMD has been shitty all over Intel in the CPU department for awhile. Looks impressive.

There's less than 1% performance gap between the 3700x and 3800x in most circumstances, where the 3700x does gain 2 extra cores/4threads vs the 3600x which makes a difference in rendering times.
For gaming I'd say don't waste your money and a 3600 and spend the rest of the money on a beefier gpu, but for video editing the extra cores will be useful.

Purely for video editing, based on the benches I've seen it's about a 7-8% performance boost, at a cost of about 11% more. So not quite worth it, but only just.

I'm better off waiting on Summer to build a new PC (whoop w/ my trump check) I heard the new gfx cards coming out this summer are going to be a pretty substantial vs a marginal boost

3080 series cards are supposed to be a 40% increase over 2080, which is huge considering a 2080 ti will Ultra-out anything for a long time still.

Some people have been tracking prices, since Corona. In Europe, prices have gone up $40 for every $300 base price, on many parts. Monitors spiked much higher. Once the stimulus checks hit, prices are going to surge.

If Welt's comment about a 40% increase holds true then I'd expect a price drop for 2080 cards. As a 2080 owner who plays at 2560x1440 it tears thru anything I've thrown at it so far. If people are selling their 2080 at a discount and you are only playing at 1080P and the price is right, grab one. It's overkill, but it will set you up if you want to upgrade your monitor.

3000 series going down to 7nm and further refinement of the RTX features (which is way way more exciting now with DLSS 2.0) should be a substantial boost, especially with more and more games likely using ray tracing with the consoles getting it.

Finished the build, ended up going with the 3700X; savings went towards a bigger mechanical storage drive. The windows license transfer also went very smoothly, which saved about $150. Everything else was more or less in line with the proposed parts, and the one thing I'm still planning on changing out is the beige and brown Noctua for a black RGB enabled one. Thanks for the advice BG!

So I am looking for a new keyboard. I've always gone with a full size, numpad included, because I played XI like the rest of us. At this point I don't play XI, don't plan on going back, and am pressed for desk space with my current situation.

I was thinking of getting a compact keyboard to give me more mouse space, but with the shit currently going on I've been using my own PC and the numpad has been useful.

What do? Obvious answer is get a bigger desk, but it's in the corner of our living room so there isn't much choice on that front atm.

I tried a tenkeyless for a while and couldn't stick with it. I use the calculator a lot and at work I deal with a lot of numbers and spreadsheets. Numpad is life.

There are 60% and other reduced key boards out there that eliminate a lot of the extra keys like D's or the home/end area. You can also get a separate numpad.

I recently got a Leopold FC660C with topre switches, and it is the best thing since sliced bread. Cost is high though:

Another nay for tenkeyless. Could never get used to it. If you haven't had a mechanical, I'd highly highly recommend it. I'll never go back to membrane and will furnish my own mechanical in my new office once we can get back to work. For what type of switches I prefer reds due to being less clicky and a little more stiff.

If you want a good, beginner KB that won't break the bank, I'd just start with a Ducky. Much better than any of the Corsair/Razer/Steel garbage in retail shops.

I just purchased this RedDragon K580-Pro with optical Brown switches at the start of the year for about $65USD on Amazon and am extremely happy with it.

Beginner KB and $240 don't go together

I was looking at this: Corsair Strafe MK2 Silent Mechanical RGB

Was also looking to see if a K95 would go on sale.

You don't read well. I suggested Ducky as a beginner KB. They are around the same price as most Corsair/Razer crap and much better.
