Understood, sorry if I missed it.
Depending on where you buy the parts, I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find a combo deal between the cpu/ram or gpu/ram, or even gpu/psu, motherboard/cpu. You doing this on amazon? new egg? Also, that isn't too shabby for what you're getting; only other thing I'd recommend is patience depending on how long you're willing to wait for a sale or price drop to happen.
edit: actually just realized that ram is 3000mhz, might not find a combo with ram at that speed.
Is this your motherboard? That's $40 cheaper than on amazon, but only for the next 14 hours. You can bundle things with it too from there, lots of options.
I checked out some of the CPU/RAM combos, but they were all more expensive than what I've got and they were slower speed. I chose Amazon for some of the ones where Amazon was a couple dollars higher because I have Prime so I get free two-day shipping, where the other vendors were charging $15+ for shipping.
That MoBo is the Z170, the one I have on my build thing is the Z270. I honestly don't know what the difference is. Maybe more M.2 slots and an updated something?
Ah, thats what I get for skimming. The z170 needs a bios update iirc to work with the 7700k, as well as having some extra pcie lanes that you won't use unless you're using more than 1 gpu. You'd save enough money on that to make it worth it imo, even if you put that money into another part, but bios updates are a pita as well so maybe you should just spend the extra money lol. I'd still peruse newegg, they often have great sales or rebates.
edit: just looked it up, you'd need a 6th gen cpu to install the bios update on the z170 anyways, so don't do that lol.
Yeah I'll keep an eye out for a little bit. Like I said, there are some combo deals on Newegg, but they end up more expensive than what I current have. That said, it doesn;t look like anything I chose is actually on sale, so there's always a chance I can get something cheaper. The closest thing is the RAM and CPU I'm looking at, but it comes with a $230 MoBo. Don't plan on spending that much on the MoBo.
Money to burn baby
It makes me sad.
He has a 1070
You're making me nervous. I was basically going to build that.
I meant he built a giant fucking gaming rig and barely utilizes it. He's asking about 4K monitors now at least. He doesn't seem to understand that Freesync doesn't work with GeForce cards though.
I don't think it actually matters much but I've been wrong before.
He's easily maxing out every single game on 1080p. 60+ FPS.
From slickdeals.net link: i7-7700k for $40 off (309.99). I'm guessing this is probably the best deal I'll get on this processor, no?
EDIT: Also this: ASUS VG248QE 24" Full HD 1920x1080 144Hz 1ms HDMI Gaming Monitor for $200 seems like a pretty good deal. It's only $25 off, but 1ms, 144Hz, and 1080p are exactly what I was looking for.
Sorry to bump, but was looking for opinions. Is there any reason why the 7700k would be getting a price drop soon?
As far as the monitor goes, my only real hesitation is 1080 vs 1440. That monitor above looks like a good deal, but I'm not sure what I should expect to pay for a decent 1440 monitor. I see anything from $300 to $600 for a 23-27" monitor with decent response time. Some of those are 60Hz which is kind of meh.
