So I got the Acer Aspire that was linked in here.

P sweet laptop. Got it loaded up with stuff for work along with a ton of movies/shows in case we get stuck in the airport.

I'll admit the touchpad is a bit sticky and not responsive but I have a wireless mouse so who cares.

I saw a video of someone cutting the heat fins to make it fit. Think it was Not From Concentrate.

I'm moving everything into the Thermaltake G21 over the weekend because the mATX case didn't work out so well. Only real concern is my mb is only mATX and I have a USB 3.0 card that sits below the pci-e slot. GPU is technically only dual slot so we'll see.

Anyone got a decent build for a gaming pc for cheap? Like, about $5-600 or so, probably using a 1080 tv for monitor.

If you in Michigan I have two for sale for under $500.....

My build is mostly price point but being a patient shopper can net you better deals, especially if you live by a Micro Center or Frys. I'd love to get that cpu to play with it though. I also have that MB for sale......

I'd also suggest looking at /r/hardwareswap if you're comfortable buying second hand. The below builds ram, hdd, and gpu were bought there. Regarding the price of the cpu/mb, cpu had a $30 MIR from Micro Center and the MB was open box + combo $30 off + extra 40% off special on open box MB when I bought.

That huge ass card. It was my first and had to return it due to power draw issues.

Might have been something wrong with your specific card. No 1070 should draw significantly more power than any other.

Facts. That's why it got returned. Got a FTW model in exchange after a Microcenter employee argued me down over it.

Yeah the card is HUGE. One of the fans appears to make a slight noise occasionally but I'm not bothered by it. I ran GR Wildlands bench last night at 4K with ultra textures but toned down shadows and no AA. Benched at 57fps. Very happy.

so my GPU crapped out a while back. my buddy is loaning me his backup 750, but fairly soon here i'll be in a position to replace it properly, at least with a mid-level card.

was looking at this 1060 but also saw this 750. eventually i'll want to upgrade to a more high end card, but for now i really just need something capable of running slightly older games (2015ish) on ultra, and the 750 im using now handles them just fine. i really only notice problems when i try to run too many monitors, which is an easy fix.

Budget for now is less than $300, and i don't really need cutting-edge capability. are these good options? or do you guys have other suggestions?

A 1060 will definitely give you the power you need. But I think that particular one you linked is a bit high even with the current inflation. Hell, if your looking for a strong 1080p without hitting that cap, check the 4gb 1050ti / rx470/570.

Playing the older games would more so branch under your CPU and chipset domain versus the graphics which improve the visuals.

Finally getting around to upgrading this ancient rig (though I may wait 2-3 weeks for black friday stuff). Really looking to bargain basement it as all I really care about is being able to stream 4K shit through plex.

Can I do much better than this setup for cheap but good?

    Current build is ye olde:
    https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6T_WS_Professional/
    Intel® Core™ i7 Processor Extreme Edition / Core™ i7 Processor / Xeon® 3500 Series Processor
    Intel® X58 / ICH10R
    True 16+2 Power Phase Design
    ASUS EPU 6-Engine & TurboV
ATI CrossFireX & NVIDIA SLI Support
    2 onboard SAS ports
    PCI-X Architecture
    G.P. Diagnosis Card Bundled
    ASUS Express Gate

After about 6 years of running ~24/7/360.

Card is GeForce GTX 660 Ti.
    12GB DDR3

Card doesn't seem worth upgrading at the moment.

I'd personally go with the Pentium G4560 since it's 2 core 4 threads just like the 6100, but it's $40 cheaper. Ram is dumb expensive right now so be ready.
