For only $10 I'd go with the guarantee. Or, buy my ram (if it's on your approved list) and ship me some that's approved on my list!!

F4-3200C16Q-64GVK and F4-3200C14Q-32GFX are the approved model number for G.Skill 3200 on my board
F4-3200C16D-16GTZSW is the model number for yours. I'm considering calling G.Skill's tech line and seeing if they have info on whether it's verified to work with the board.
So I rolled the dice on those Ripjaws 3200 thinking they were probably going to work. Couldn't get them to stay stable over 2133 of course.
I have a choice between these two on my QVL.
1. Patriot Viper DDR4-2400 (PC4 19200) @ 135 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16820225016
or
2. G.Skill Trident DDR4-3000 (PC4 24000) @ 190 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-498-_-Product
Is it worth the $45? (There's a slightly cheaper Corsair set that's on my QVL list as well that I linked previously, but there is a version number in addition to the model number and Newegg only provides the model number. Don't want another possible headache so I figure if I'm in for a penny with 3000 I'm in for a dollar and will get the Tridents.)
Go with the DDR4-3000 if at all possible. Ryzen loves fast memory, much moreso than Core because of how Infinity Fabric works.
Yeah I'd go for the faster option. It's a 2-5% average fps improvement but if you're keeping the pc for 5+ years why not?
Before returning them and buying another set, is your BIOS updated to the newest? My board just had an update a few days ago so I need to install it and try again.
Yep I flashed the newest BIOS. I also tried putting in complete manual timings generated from the Ryzen RAM calculator. I'm sure if I played around with it long enough I could get it stable at SOMETHING above 2133 but I want the full return for the premium paid to get 3200.
That's how I feel about mine too. At least I can get 2800 but I'd really like the 3200 that I paid for. I'll be fiddling with mine later today.
I get 3000 of 3200 on my Corsair Vengeance, but that was only after a couple of BIOS updates. Couldn't push it any further.
Any input on price of this? HP has a 20% off code atm on laptops and I need a dank one. The only thing I dont like here is 1tb hd with a smol ssd, I dont really need a tb on a regular hd but you cant make it any smaller
This is $1,551.99 + Tax after the 20% off

I can't speak to the value as I haven't been looking at the prices for mobile parts, but from a sheer spec perspective it looks fine for a modern gaming laptop. The one thing that I would pause on is the display. A lot of that price is probably locked into that display and 1080p/144hz/GSync is damn good for a laptop... but is it worth it?
If you game a lot on the go, then it's fine. But if the idea is that you'll be playing at home and you CAN take it on the go if you want, I would consider finding a similar laptop with a cheaper display and investing in an actual monitor. You could reallocate that cash on a 165hz/Gsync/IPS monitor that you can attach to the laptop and will serve you after you replace this laptop.
For me, even if I opted for a gaming laptop over a gaming desktop I'd end up pretty much docking it when I was home anyway so that I could use my full size mechanical keyboard. Might as well also enjoy a 24-27" monitor while you're at it. But if you're on the road more and you want stuff to look great when playing on the built in display, then it is probably worth it to you to have a high quality screen.
the display on that is only a $70 upgrade from the base - '17.3" diagonal FHD IPS anti-glare WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)'
my home pc is getting a little dated, I think its got a i5 and a 960 so this probably would get docked for use at home too but the screens I currently use are a 60" tv and a 10-15 year old DVI 2nd monitor lol
Get a high quality screen. It makes a huge difference. My current piece of shit work laptop has a crap TN screen and I can't even use it on most planes because the viewing angle is so shit.
biggest reason why im hesitating on this is that they wont ship until 8/10 ;_;
holy shit I check again today on the same thing and now it says they dont ship until 8/20
kill me
Who's following the current MacBook meltdown? Shit is fucking hilarious. Leave to Apple to overengineer themselves into a disaster by missing the obvious.
do tell
new core i9's overheat and throttle to like half the advertised clock speeds... they still perform better than the i7 variant but they're held back by the 'barely there' cooling system that the macbook pro's provide
can't really blame apple all that much. the i9 require a crazy amount of cooling, especially chunked into a laptop. the i9 needs something 6 inches thick to allow it to reach it's peak speeds
tldr; the i9 runs hot as shit. apple slaps the pro moniker on yet another device that focuses on form over function
