Trying handbrake for the first time today and it kept freezing my PC, or so I thought. My CPU was hitting max temp! Granted I have an OC at 4.0 but I was only using 8/16 threads and I still reached 84c. This iteration of my build has been together for a little over a year, maybe closer to a year and a half. I didn't think I'd need to apply new paste but here we are. New dot of MX-4 and I removed the OC. Next rip I stayed at 55c. So the PC advice is apply some new TIM every now and again!!

Now to figure out uploading vids, watermark, and other creative stuff.

Just finished installing a Noctua DH15, thing is massive. Now that I'm off the stock cooler I'm trying to OC my Ryzen 5 2600. Right now I've got it at 4.1Ghz all cores (compared to 3.4 base / 3.9 turbo boost) at 1.34V with a 65~ temp under load with Prime95 blender.

Switched out my RAM as well since prices are dropping and I think we're close to the bottom (RAM manufacturers ceasing production plus shortages inc. when Ryzen 3000 hits). Got a 3600CL19 set for less than half of what I paid for 3000CL16 when I built. I couldn't get stable above 3200 but I got it to 3200CL14.

Settling in for the long haul stability test now, then we'll see what this translates to in terms of actual FPS gain.

Got errors 3 hrs into Blender. MemTest confirmed it was a memory error not a processor.

I've been trying to keep the SOC voltage to 1.2V. Although supposedly 1.3 can be safe, AMD regards 1.2 as the safe number and that gives leeway on spikes/fluctuation/misreads (my offset already goes between 1.188 and 1.224). RAM voltage itself is already 1.37V.

Using the Ryzen RAM calculator to set manual timings already so tinkering to get numbers that stay stable is going to be a pain.

Some Zen 2 boards rumoured to hit 4600 ddr4. Will be nice if true.

I got a 50 FPS boost in Dota 2 with my new settings but I was getting soft crashes. My Mobo is just shit with RAM. Going to stay with splurging for nice ASUS boards from now on. I thought that going Ryzen would be beneficial primarily because the socket would mean an easy upgrade but I'd seriously probably switch my board out at this point if I did a processor switch.

    I mean, not much.

For the average user and even gamers, you're talking about such small differences when changing RAM speed you'd likely never notice. RAM is just so much faster then your CPU/SSD/etc and is never a bottleneck

I think if you're OC'ing a Ryzen and looking for 200+ FPS (like me) high speed OC'd RAM is necessary, but my situation is atypical. Most people are GPU locked.

Zen 2 doesn't put such a premium on high speed ram because the infinity fabric clock isn't synced to ram speed like 1000 and 2000 series were, I'm hoping we see lower frame latency so we get higher fps for free ( well ).

Or more to the point any assumptions about ram scaling on zen 2 based on zen or zen+ are unfounded and we need real benchmarks to see if it's worth dropping $500 on fast AF ram.

One of the only RAM kits 3400 or above on my QVL is a $1000 eight stick Corsair set lol

I had to step down to 3000CL14 to stay 100% rock solid stable, so a bit disappointing. Might have been able to use these timings with my old 3000CL16 set (Hynix A-Die vs. Hynix CJR on this one) but that set is getting recycled for someone else's build (they will appreciate the RGB more anyway) so it's not too bad.

The Noctua keeping temperatures at 65 max even under 12-thread/6-core full load on a 1.344V/4.1GHz OC. Actual gaming I'm only hitting 40. 1.4V is the highest 24/7 safe voltage according to AMD so I could potentially push to something between 4.1 and 4.2 but I'm happy with this. Went from 140~190 in Dota 2 to 170~220, makes me feel like I'm making a lot more use of my 240Hz Monitor. Overwatch didn't have a lot of appreciable gains.

surprised none of you nerds is on about the Ryzen 7nm line but if they have really finally caught up to Intel in gaming performance hot damn am i jumping CPU/motherboard ship in July. we'll see what real world tests say but matching the i7-9700K in singlethreading and crushing it in multithreading at a $330 price point / 65 watt power consumption is bonkers.

Still waiting for reviewers to get back from Computex but I'm very excited for the future. I'm still doing just fine with my i5-6600k but that's definitely not to say there isn't room and desire for more efficiency.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Ryzen 3rd gen/7mm, but I'll believe the perf numbers when I see them.

Always have to wait for real benchmarks and not the cherry picked ones from the manufacturer.

Looks good even when you figure AMD is cherry picking numbers tho.

I'm pretty sure Navi is gonna be a gigantic disappointment for a lot of people tho, especially when you consider it's gonna be driving the PS5

I mean I'm excited mostly for the price drops it brought to Zen 1 and Zen+. Built the gf a budget 2400G comp, entire tower was $350.

It just needs to be said that Windows Update in 10 is a plague upon humanity.

I decided to reformat a computer because I figured it was the easiest way to fix something I fucked up (I'm super anal retentive about backing stuff up so it's easy to restore everything). Got everything just about done and them noticed the internet wasn't working on it anymore. Deciding I had AGAIN fucked something, I reformatted again and was doing it slow.

After running Windows Update, the internet broke again, leading me to realize it was fucking Windows breaking the goddamn WiFi/Ethernet adapters because of its baked in driver installs. Grabbed the right drivers thru my phone and now everything is working again.

Now I'm wondering if my initial problem was Windows Update related, probably from something they fucked up in 1903.

Just look at the sheer volume of products from board manufacturers - they've seen the ES chips and are hyped as fuck.
I don't think we've seen this level of hype from board partners since... actually I'm not sure. Perhaps Sandy/Ivy bridge?

I believe Ryzen 3rd gen is gonna be hot shit, no question. Just hedging so I don't end up disappointed!
