PC Build Advice/Review II: 3090 or Bust.

Soooooo gonna take the shot at camping best buy since it’s the only store i have available to get me a 3080. Looks like they have the founders, gigabyte, and msi models, so not sure which one to try. I was told to call today to see how they’re gonna handle the stock tomorrow.

I'm curious what they say... I'm debating between going to a store tomorrow vs just trying online.

Actual pc build advice question: my power supply is an evga g3, it's spec'ed for 3x PCIe 8-pin (6+2) connectors. I was looking through the cables last night and realized they only provided 2 cables, one normal and the other with two sets of 6+2 connectors at the end. I've got to assume it can legitimately fully power both of those connectors, right?

Each cable generally carries up to 125w, if you want to be 100% safe you can buy a cable from cable mods or something so you can have 3 separate ones if you end up getting a triple 8 pin model

In terms of in store availability, microcenter is supposed to be doing a first come first serve voucher system and best buy might not be selling in store at all

Don't expect too many if any 3090 reviews before launch day. They aren't seeding reviewers with units.

I'm just taking the 3080 numbers and adding 10% as worst case scenario. We already know the 3090 is a ridiculous waste of money if you aren't a prosumer with a genuine use for the VRAM capacity, so I'm looking more at whether it will let me maintain 120+ in just about every game on my 3.5k screen. My conclusion is "probably", whereas the 3080 might not in some. I will try to get one even though I fully accept it is a pretty stupid thing to do.

Looks like it was slightly overhyped. If you're running a 2080ti or 2080s prob don't upgrade.

The FE card has some limitations, hopefully the aib ones are where we were expecting. I'm gonna try to snag one online but I'll use my break to try and get a msi gaming trio from bestbuy tomorrow or a Strix if they don't have it. I won't be buying an FE that's for sure.

This is always the case, and don't listen to anyone that tells you otherwise. If you care about temps, noise, or OCing, always investigate AIBs first.

It is what, $150 more? I think they had the overall best 2080 TI, so just depends if it is worth it to you. They will probably have the best cooling.

Yeah they typically have the best overall. Think it was the same for 1080ti and 1080 too. It's usually less than 1% performance but it's been 5-10% noise in the past so it's usually my go to. MSI always a cunt hair behind.

Disagree. The idiots who genuinely believed that "up to 2x performance" meant that the 3080 would be 100% faster than a 2080 in every application ever made deserved to be disappointed. In terms of raw performance gains, efficiency, and price to performance Ampere blows away any other nvidia release in the company's history by a fair margin, including the 1000 series which previously held that crown. For people upgrading from the 1000 series they actually are getting double the performance in a lot of cases. Even with a 2 generation gap that has never happened before.
