Felt alright to sit in the office chair today so did some tweaking.
Have my rig mining $10/day on ETH. Pretty stoked. It isn't a shitload now but I'll be playing the long game on it. Still, printing $10/day for doing absolutely nothing is cool.

Hey guys help me out. My friend wants to build a pc but he has NO CLUE but I do. Like he said he had a $1500 budget then started linking me $900 monitors because he said he wanted 4k and thought 144hz was good. I said bro that's like the best monitor chill so he linked me a $800 ultra wide and I'm like I thought you wanted 4k lol.
Anyway, he plays a ton of old games like resident evil and other ports. I suggested 4k over UW due to that. He doesn't play FPS games I don't think, so I don't think the 144hz is necessary, but I'm a big believer of 1440p 144hz for price/performance and as a great entry level monitor. He might still want 4k though.
So I want to build with either option in mind but in a hard to get gpu market. I don't know what AMD cards are comparable to nivida or CPUs to intel. I'm thinking he should go for a 3060ti or 3070 level card. $1500 more or less including monitor. He said he could go higher for the monitor but I see how he spends money so I'd rather keep him as close to $1500 as possible and under 2k for sure.
What cpu's/gpu's am I looking at?
I can say there are good 1440p/144hz monitors for under $350, he shouldn’t go balls to the wall on blowing half the budget on a monitor. If he wants to go UW, go UW but he has to keep in mind his budget is gonna take a massive dive.
In regards to a cpu/gpu, i recommended my friends a Ryzen 3700X to fit in their $1300 budget, they managed to snag 3070FEs from best buy before the price spike a few weeks ago as well. Can’t go wrong with those, gives some wiggle room for good ram and whatnot as well.
Yeah I told him he'd be looking at 2500-3k with those monitors so I tried talking him down to 4k 60hz or 2k 144hz. Or some other 4k > 60hz but not $800.
I really need the cpu/gpu comparison so thanks. I have been nivida intel forever so I don't know the amd equivalents. I was thinking a 3060ti or 3070 would be perfect for those monitors so whatever amd that is.
AMD equivalent (6800) for the 3070 is a bit more expensive, so you might be better off sticking to the nvidia 3070. The other issue i’ve always had with AMD was shit drivers, but that may have changed with time.
Regarding CPUs, you can do some performance comparisons in cpu.userbenchmark.com
An AMD Ryzen 3700X i believe is roughly equivalent to an Intel i5-9600K, while the value is cheaper in intel, the Ryzen is a much more efficient cpu in every workload regard for a little lower fps in games (like around 5-10fps in 1440p) but normally at those resolutions, the gpu will be pushed more.
Advise me what to choose because my budget is slightly reduced. I currently have two 24 IPS monitors that I multitask with. I play FFXI on two accounts that I use almost all the time (24/7) when browsing youtube and the internet. I wish the new platform could do this easily without the frame rate dropping. I also open a third game like Hearthstone or CS Go even with minimized FFXI running in the background and there I see some issues with my computer but it works fine (at least by my standards).
Well it took me two days but I talked him off the 3080 and ridiculous monitors. Finally got him to consider a 3070/6800 and a 379$ 1440/144hz monitor.
Made two builds with both an intel and amd cpu, he's freaking out cause he can add everything to cart except gpu and almost bought everything from a 2080ti to 3080 3rd party for like 1500 just so he could use it now. The dude plays resident evil and 8yr old console ports on a 1440p 1660ti laptop lmao.
Hold up, if that’s all he plays now, then why doesn’t he just start off with a monitor to hook next to the laptop then work his way up? His next focus should be attempting to nab the gpu, right now best buy drops have given my friends luck. You can always try the ATR discord for alerts.
Once he nabs the gpu, then he should go for everything else.
I'm like. You aren't going to get much more or anything else out of those games than you do now. He's like well horizon and I get that but it should look and play just fine on that laptop. Tomb raider and other shit he won't notice.

It is done.
Found out last minute child needs headphones for tomorrow.
Annoyed I’m driving to microcenter for kids $20 headphones, the only ones the girlfriend wants for him.
Walk in as they are putting 3070’s on the shelf.
No longer annoyed with the 6 pm trip.

Damn, I'm hoping to get a 3080. I'd rush over there if they had that lol
Proth or others who know more about AIOs:
Is the tube orientation here fine? I can move the connectors either straight vertical (up) or facing toward the side of the case. I can't face them down like you have yours. My temps are good and I'm not hearing a lot of whine, unless running a benchmark, but I'm worried this may introduce air? It is installed as directed.
Edit: Ignore the different ram coloring for now, working on it >_> lol
It’s fine, so long as the radiator outlet/inlet are above the actual cooler on the cpu, no worries on air.
