Alright, I need some advice because my computer isn't working as it should be and its frustrating the crap out of me. Overwatch started having issues in fights when the game would start stuttering and the sound would start gargling and it happened what seems like overnight to me.

DOOM now moves sluggishly in firefights.

I checked the CPU, it failed an IMC check but a Bios update fixed it yet the issue still persists. I've attempted using FurMark to stress test the GPU, but it held a steady 30 frames per second over 20 minutes running at 97-98% power. SSD everything is installed on is working fine and the PSU is delivering the proper +5 and +12 VDC to components.

I have formatted and reinstalled windows and all programs and rechecked everything and the issues still persist. I'm lost as for a way to further troubleshoot.

Is your CPU overclocked at all? Is your memory overclocked? I've seen odd behavior like this from memory that's set too aggressively (timings I mean).

Does your box ONLY act odd while gaming?

If possible, connect different power leads to your video card.

You could go here: http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm and download the free version of Memtest86, make a bootable disc or USB drive, and run that test.

    *edit*

Also, is the power supply new, or is it recycled from an older build?

Could also check for excessive dust leading to thermal throttling, I've had problems with that in the past.

Mem check was good. Opened up the case and dusted it out. It helped a little. Doom started running smooth, though overwatch is still being a pain. Even booted up DOOM afterwards to check and it still ran smooth.

Are you using temp monitoring software and/or did you build the computer recently?

If you're using the stock heatsink, make sure it's on TIGHT. The stock Intel heatsink is fucking terrible at staying where you put it.

Its a 6700k so they don't come with stock heatsinks. Shits on good, CPU cores hit a max temp of around 30 C.

GPU is hitting 61 C idle, hit a max of 77 C while playing overwatch (Played it on Ultra graphics again to try to force the issue. No huge slow downs now, however there's still audio issue and the initial wait for players to get loaded up in a new game). GPU is idling at 64 C now.

I think the issue is as good as I'll be able to make it for now.

Edit: computer was built in October 2015

Is idling at 64C normal? I idle around 27-28C...

My 970 is idling at 37C right now, so yes, 61C-64C at idle seems pretty high to me.

Depends on the gpu. My Asus R9 390x is at 66c right now and I only have chrome tabs open. Many reports of this specific gpu running hot like this but nothing "out of the norm" per Asus.

GPUs having the fan off below certain temp thresholds has become more common of late, but unless you change it manually I can't think of any Nvidia's that go any higher then 50c before turning on the fans.

Woke up the compy. Watched the GPU slowly heat up from 30 C to a steady 62 C (Fans hit 8%)

Running Overwatch on Ultra @ 1440p

First game FPS hovered around 30 frames. A few dips into the 25 FPS territory, no issues with audio gargling.

Second game hit 40 FPS. Still no gargling, GPU temp 71

Third game, seeing more issues prop up. 30-35 FPS more common on same map.

Fourth Game, new map more issues towards the end. Noticed the GPU clock drop to 1200 from 1300. Its back up to 1300.

I think this is as good as I'm going to get it for now unless there's something I haven't noticed. Its definitely better than it was a few days ago so thanks for all the help.

Assuming you're using an OSD, what is your CPU/GPU usage at?

    havent read much of history

if you have an nvidia card and 144hz monitor, you idle temp will be high. For some reason nvidia drivers run cards at constant 45% power draw at all times on idle. 120hz will run idle at normal power draw.

idk if you have 144hz monitor or not. My card idles at 59-61c, if i turn monitor to 120hz, idles at 35c

    Nope, 60 hz Ultrawide Screen

Spoiler'd 'cuz this shit is long.
    Spoiler: show
Get into a game and the GPU instantly goes down to sub 1k MHz

In the middle of a game hitting 20 fps

    Waaaaay underclocked.

    Edit: During the end

    After the end

Edit: Downloaded EVGA's overclocking tool. Turned on KBOOST to get it to work that way. Things are running smoother now.

Have you tried moving it to a different PCI slot on the mobo? The VDDC reading might be showing that it's not pulling enough power from the PCI slot. Either way it for whatever reason it's just not drawing enough power.

Also, are using the most recent Nvidia drivers? Both Overwatch and Doom had release day drivers, and while this doesn't look like a driver problem you never know.

Yep, using the most recent driver. Moved the 980Ti into a different PCI slot and it seems to be running the same more or less. Looked at CPUID and saw that my each core of my processor is clocked at 800 MHz.
