FFRK - Abyss Dungeon - Combat Event & Strategies

Our second Abyss Dungeon Arrives! Apparently we got a lucky banner for this that JP didn't get, #GlobalMasterRace (except when we get FFT Banners )

Remember also that you do NOT need to worry about completing this, if you are a newer player and don't have the hones/gear/chars leveled needed to clear, you can wait for the abyss dungeon to open up again next month and complete both this one and the next one then.

    Event Start Date: April 23
    Event End Date: May ?

All Information is taken from a mixture of Reddit/Spreadsheets/Kongpakbao Site.

Most, if not all info for the event (Commentary/Ultimate Abilities was directly copy/pasted from it, so all credit to the site for that especially!) comes from this site: http://ffrk.kongbakpao.com/abyss-2/

    HP: ~181400
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Behemoth without being KO'd.
    • Afflict Behemoth with Poison.
    • Do not use Black Magic on Behemoth.

    Weak: None
    Absorb: None
    Vulnerabilities: Poison

    Commentary
Inflict Poison and use defensive Breakdowns + Protectga. Draw Fire + Retaliate works well.

Recommended abilities: Venom Buster, Protectga, Power Breakdown, Full Break, Steal Power
Recommended RW: Lunatic High, SG/SS2, etc.

    TOTAL medals = 18 medals
, meaning you can only lose a max of 3 medals to get Mastery.

    Hill Gigas (FF9)
    HP: ~202100
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Hill Gigas without being KO'd.
    • Afflict Hill Gigas with Slow.
    • Do not use Black Magic on Hill Gigas.

    Weak: None
    Absorb: None
    Vulnerabilities: Slow

    Commentary
    None

Recommended abilities: Tempo Flurry/Slowga, Protectga, Shellga, defensive Breakdowns
Recommended RW: SG/SS2, Boon, Lunatic High, Mighty Guard, etc.

Total medals = 18, meaning you can only afford to lose 3 medals to get Mastery.

    Iguions (FF8)
    HP: ~106400 Each
    Target Score:
    • Defeat the Iguions without being KO'd.
    • Exploit the Iguions weakness to holy attacks.
    • Do not use fire attacks on the Iguions.

    Weak: Earth/Holy
    Absorbs: None
    Null: Fire/Poison
    Vulnerabilities: Slow

    Commentary

    [LIST]
These Iguions have high RES. Use physical attacks instead. Saint's Cross is excellent here.

Recommended abilities: Protectga, Shellga, defensive Breakdowns, Saint's Cross
    Recommended RW: defensive

Total medals = 18, meaning you can only afford to lose 3 medals to get Mastery.

    Motor Ball (FF7)
    HP: ~247100
    Target Score:
    • Defeat the Motor Ball without being KO'd.
    • Exploit Motor Ball's weakness to lightning attacks.
    • Do not use fire attacks against Motor Ball.

    Weak: Lightning
    Resist: Fire
    Absorbs: None
    Vulnerabilities: None

    Commentary

Again, Motor Ball has high RES, so resort to spellblades for effective damage. Its physical and magic attacks hurt so apply necessary buffs/ Breakdowns. Lightning’s SSB is very potent here. You can even bring it as an RW.

    Recommended abilities: defensive Breakdowns, Protectga/Shellga
Recommended RW: Crushing Blow, Fenrir Drive, SG/SS2

Total medals = 18, meaning you can only afford to lose 3 medals to get Mastery.

    Demon Wall (Abyss)
    HP: ~276000
    Target Score:
    • Do not use Black Magic on Demon Wall.
    • Defeat Demon Wall without it using Gravija.
    • Defeat Demon Wall without it using Crashdown.

    Weak: None
    Absorbs: None
    Vulnerabilities: None

    Abilities

    ► Phase 1

Rare Cut: Deal physical damage three times to one target.
Anger Blow: Deal special physical damage to one target.
Contempt: Deal special physical damage and dispels Retaliate effect from one target.
    Sleep: Sleep one target.
Gravija: Deal damage to all targets, proportional to their HP.
Death (Counter): KO one target (trigger: magic attacks)

    ► Phase 2

Rare Cut: Deal physical damage three times to one target.
Anger Blow: Deal special physical damage to one target.
Contempt: Deal special physical damage and dispels Retaliate effect from one target.
Rampage: Deal physical damage to all targets.
    Sleep: Sleep one target.
Royal Tomb Burial: Mark three targets.
Nightmare Gravity: Deal proportional damage to targets marked by Royal Tomb Burial, and Sap them.
Nightmare Crashdown: Deal special physical damage that ignores defense to all targets.
Screech: Deal special physical damage and Silence all targets.
Death (Counter): KO one target (trigger: magic attacks)

    ► Phase 3

Nightmare Condemn: Deal special physical damage that ignores defense to one target.
Nightmare Crashdown: Deal special physical damage that ignores defense to all targets.
Death (Counter): KO one target (trigger: magic attacks)

    ► Left/Right Arm

Aspil: Reduce the number of ability uses of one target.

    Commentary

    PHASE 1:

    • Phase 1 ends when Demon Wall gets 4 turns. Gravija will be used, and Phase 2 will begin.
    • Phase 1 also ends when Demon Wall takes ~80000 damage (30% of his HP) before he gets 4 turns.

If you have trouble pushing this phase, grab a damaging RW like Cloud’s BSSB, Squall’s SSB, Lightning’s SSB, etc. Otherwise, go all out on Demon Wall before he uses Gravija.

    PHASE 2:

    • Left and Right arms join the fight and become targettable.
    • Demon Walls begins casting Royal Tomb Burial.
    • Royal Tomb Burial: the range of this ability looks like a red frontal cone and it always targets three party members at any one time. This Royal Tomb will approach and will eventually use Nightmare Gravity, which will deal heavy proportional damage to “marked” targets and Sap them. You can tell that Royal Tomb is approaching by the “red glow” that happens from time to time.
    • Targets marked by Royal Tomb Burial can prevent Nightmare Gravity from occurring. They simply have to attack Demon Wall and the Royal Tomb will be pushed back, delaying Nightmare Gravity. But if unmarked targets attack Demon Wall, the Royal Tomb will advance, making Nightmare Gravity a more likely occurrence.
    • Royal Tomb Burial changes targets after Demon Wall has taken enough turns.
    • Phase 2 ends when the arms are defeated.

In this phase, you want to make sure you handle the Royal Tomb mechanic well. In short, people in red cone: attack demon wall; those outside, attack the arms. One good tip here is whoever is in the cone, have them stagger their attacks so that the Royal Tomb is pushed back at a steady rate.

Also, delaying the killing of arms is recommended. You do not really want to be in Phase 3 for an extended period of time. You are just leaving yourself vulnerable to Nightmare Crashdown.

    PHASE 3:

At this point Demon Wall just goes on a rampage and you pretty much have to kill him before Nightmare Crushdown is used.

    Recommended RW:

    • Damage SB if you don’t have the damage to push Phase 1 (Squall, Lightning, Cloud’s BSSB, etc)
    • Reraise + heal SB if you need a safety net. (Eiko/Aerith)

Total medals = 18, meaning you can only afford to lose 3 medals to get Mastery.

One thing to mention about the demon wall fight, it is completely immune to all stat break effects, so don't bother bringing them. This is the case for the final boss of all nightmare dungeons to date to my knowledge.

Overall, the fight isnt too bad as long as you dont mess up the royal tomb mechanic. Put your biggest hitter in the center of your party lineup to ensure they are marked every time (tomb targets either slots 1-3, 2-4, or 3-5) and healer should be in slot 1 or 5 to minimize the odds of being marked (1/3 probability)

Seems we're getting a lucky draw after all! Updating OP with list of what relics will be possible from the draw, gl all on any Ram....Agrias! relics you missed out on!

Edit: List is done, notable relics from glance are a shit ton of SSBs (Peacemaker, Riot Blade, Excalibur, Apocalypse are notable), 2 hastegas (Apocalypse and Seeker's Shield), another shot at Agrias lewt which we won't have till (maybe) BSSBfest and second FFT banner in 5ish months, and another shot at Cloud's BSSB, and our first shot at Tyro's SLG outside of Beginner Banner.

Doubt it Ramza is not 5* and i think you can only draw relic for people that get 'realm synergy'

edit: seems like Stormlance Grimoire for Tyro is not featured

I'll be hoping for SG, Defender, Banishing Blade, STQ, or Zantetsuken.

Also, not sure who the hell to bring. Tyro's a given. I guess I can bring Cloud, Squall, Lightning, Agrias, Tyro and just RW Ramza since he doesn't have synergy.

I'll probably bring Tyro (SG) //Steiner (2 relics)/ Agrias (2 relics) Sephiroth SSB and not sure who to bring as #5

Tyro will probably be my healer if i actually need a healer

#5 might be deicded depending on lucky draw

Combat is so common so this can either be the best pull of your life (tons of SSBs) or the worst (Buster Sword and Revolver tiers). Good luck everyone.

Given my global track record for lucky banners this is probably true.

Question about Abyss Dungeons - does the progress you made on the previous dungeons reset? I was 4/5 and it closed before I had a chance to finish the last one - will I need to do last months 1-4 again to unlock last months #5?

...I guess another question, will I need to do last months 1-5 to even begin this months 1-5?
