Finished, and it's definitely my favorite of the Marvel series', though after just-watched hype dies, Daredevil season 1 might beat it. But the parts of this that felt "real" were really, really on point. I mentioned it before, and while I can see complaints about pacing for people who don't *crave* the long-form of storytelling, the reviews that hated this the most were mostly based on their political distaste with guns. Protip: if you've got that strong a political bias against guns, maybe The Punisher isn't the show for you, and in the interest of an honest review, put that disclaimer in giant freakin' flashing neon letters. I don't like violence, particularly; I rather quite hate it, and tend to skip it or turn away from it in shows. And I'm glad there was as little of it as there was here. But I'm not letting that influence my opinion of how well it was produced or accomplished the story it set out to tell.

    Spoiler: show
I was hoping that PTSD boy was going to use his bomb, and blow up Billy's face, and we'd see Jigsaw just lose his mind and go ape this season, but overall, his arc was profoundly moving. Hurt so bad for him, a ton of sympathy for him, with absolutely no approval of his actions. But I've known people lost similarly to that. And the inability to help folks like that is one of the most maddening impotencies imaginable. Not that anyone deserves that kind of pain, but vets with that level of torment have a special place in my heart. They stylized it a bit, but it drove home well.

If you're looking for minorities you'll have to wait for season two. Frank isn't a cop.

Yeah, pretty much ruined the twist of him being in bed with Orange for me. Still think it was a great reveal though

The name of his character is a pretty dead give away if you've ever read the comics.

To say nothing of how often they reference how good looking he is

I quite liked this series. Especially after the last few being meh to okay on Netflix.

It maybe dragged a little bit in a few parts, and the episode with (very minor spoilers I guess)
    Spoiler: show
them moving around to different perspectives and times in the same day felt kind of pointless
, but overall I still thought this was worth watching even knowing very little about the Punisher before going into this.

The wife and I just finished ep 8(We're slow). And we're both loving it, me a bit more than her I think. She has trouble with the blood and ends up covering her eyes and asking me "Is it over yet?" when anything gets too gross.

So far I like it better than DD season 1,which is something I never thought I'd say

it was fine, i was more into the veteran's stuff than anything frank was doing. frank and his partner had pretty good back and forths, still think 13 episodes are too many. while the defenders had a lot of problems, it being 8 episodes feels about right for how long these seasons should fun

I'm hopping on board with the on-par with DD1/JJ bandwagon. It does have the benefit of Frank's character already being established in DD2, but the story didn't have any really big weaknesses or loose ends.
    Spoiler: show
I would have liked to see how Karen put the story out at the end, or like a Trish talk segment

The supporting cast was all pretty good imo, especially Madani as an original character

    Spoiler: show
Lewis was a more compelling side-story that some of Marvel's other supporting cast characters, like that brother than had a crush on Jessica and his sister disapproving. His story arc is believable and done well except for why he latches onto the 2nd Amendment as his "thing."

Finally finished it last night. The first 8 episodes could have been 3 or 4 with large chunks cut out and nothing of value would be lost. The last 5 were really good though.

just finished it as well, p easily my favorite from the Netflix Marvel serieseses.

    Spoiler: show
agree with the consensus of Lewis's arc being the most compelling part of the show. the actor did an exceptional job portraying the tics and fraying self-control of worsening psychosis. and while sensationalized that kind of exploration of real world tragedy and trauma (with only JJ's foray into domestic abuse as similarly weighty company in the Marvelverse) is always going to resonate more powerfully than secret ninja plots to destroy the world or some purple sucka collecting jewelry. heartbreak a mile wide at this broken, failed boy choking out Kipling's 'go go go like a soldier' before embracing a fate all too common for broken, failed soldiers.

also served as a pretty direct parallel to Frank's actions and a demonstration of the potential moral bankruptcy behind vigilantism, which a project like this desperately needs lest it devolve into murder porn and fascist fetishism. show did solid work overall portraying Frank as fundamentally broken which is when the character is at its most interesting.

also leessssgoooooo Jigsaw. mom scene + washing blood off Madani was A+ villainy. can't wait to see him off the leash next season.

also can Deborah Ann Woll just leave DD forever her tortured chemistry with Jon Bernthal is a million times more compelling than anything she's ever done with Matt and Foggy.

Madani and co were def the weakest part of the journey. felt perfunctory to a lot of the action and the degree to which government agencies were willing to let shit slide stretched the limits of credulity even in a comic book universe.

I don't recall what episode I'm at (I want to say 7) but it's been a very fun show and Jon B has grown on me between this and The Accountant. At times though, I'd swear he's John Cena's brother when he has short hair.

I dunno, I still see Shane. I just can't shake it.

Nontheless, the show is as bloody as you would expect Punisher to be. Was a fun ride.

Haven't really enjoyed any marvel stuff on netflix, most of it I just wasn't interested in. DD was ok, but imo it is no comparison to this.

The Punisher was easily my favorite.

Was not interested in Luke Cage or Jessica Jones, haven't watched a single episode. Watched the first episode of iron fist but that didn't grab my attention either.

Way more interested in the brutal nature of this character.

Ya. I watched like 1 or 2 of all the others before completely losing interest. Been blitzing through this as best as I can working 70+hrs/week. Fallen asleep 3 nights in a row trying my best to watch episode 8. Never make past the first like 3min. Eff my job for paying me good moneys.

Just finished it. Pretty sure it's at the top of my list of Marvel Netflix series now.

    Spoiler: show
Compared to the other series, it never felt like Punisher bit off more than it could chew. Some of the other series tried to go in too many different directions, had too many moving parts, or just flat out had uninspiring events or characters. The closest it came to having something that fell flat was Lewis' plot and resolution IMO, but even then his character was relatable and fairly well developed, it just felt like it was filler rather than having much of a point, though you could argue he was just meant to be a synonym of Frank. I really liked that rather than being a season of murder porn, which I was largely expecting, it focused more on the psychological and mental/emotional tormented side of Castle. It felt more like a slow burn which cumulated in rewarding and meaningful fight scenes, rather than just non-stop kill all the guys types of action. The supporting cast was also pretty stellar I thought which went a long way to helping the flow.

My only complaints would be the focus on the DHS side and the lack of crossover with other series. I understand why we were shown that side, but there were certainly times I wished the focus was more on Frank and Micro rather than getting tied up further in the web of truth-seeking of the DHS, specially when it was reveals that we as the audience were already aware of. It just felt like they were playing catchup a lot of the times and that didn't really help push the narrative much. Karen helps greatly with the crossover side, but she felt kinda tossed away after episode 8. Just seeing her hear about the two suspects that were being charged, or something to toss her back in so we see her knowing that everything's ok woulda been a nice touch. Some mention of what happened in Defenders, or Karen going on the Trish Talk show instead of some other random radio guy, woulda helped too. Having the cop back that originally was after Castle in DD S2 was cool though. I was hopeful for some cameo from either the Kingpin, Murdock, or Foggy since they were all heavily involved in his introduction.

Regardless of my minor complaints, I'm very much looking forward to more. Bernthal nailed it IMO. One minor question though, does anyone know where in the timeline this takes place? I've never much tracked the show's timelines but between DD taking months/year (?) off, and the opening episode here, I'm not sure where everything falls together at.
