Aw I was hoping to avoid a new laptop too lol.

They are nice cards from the outset but I bought a pair of 980 ti's last year. Got some throttling atm but I think I found its just my 4 year old mobo that might be the issue (intel not supporting it anymore :c). Replacing that now this week but I dont see the need to replace em with 1080s. Maybe next years 1180s or 1280s but think Imma be passing this round me thinks.
Outside of everything, they are proving that if you have anything sub 980/R9 380, these will essentially change your world. Speaking as someone who mainly rocks a GTX 560ti, I look forward to adding this to my prospecting build
Welp, someone just bought one of my 390x. After Amazon fees I'll clear $325. Will sell the other 390x i suppose. Now...1080 or wait.....

You're going to have to wait regardless until third party can get their hands on the dyes to make boards, it's impossible to grab a 1080 currently. Sales opened up and they were cleaned out in 20 minutes.
EVGA has been teasing an ACX cooled version of the 1080, I'd imagine it will be avaipable right around launch.
Hopefully they've revised the design after slacking off on the ACX coolers for the 900 series (though it still worked totally fine)
I don't plan to buy immediately. I still now need to sell my other 390x. But, 1080 or wait for AMD is the real question. Like a fine wine, AMD gets better with time unlike Nvidia. That is my concern with buying the 1080.
AMD are announcing early june I think, so unless you want a founders edition for some reason, easy enough to wait.
At least from what rumors have been suggesting AMD's initial offerings for Polaris won't be very interesting. Targeting the sub 350 range so not really trying to compete with the 1070/1080
Already got a 980 Ti, having urge to get a 1080 Ti... >.>
Why not wait for the Pascal Titan?
cause it will cost $1000+ Ti will release after titan
Good watch. Thanks for posting. Yet again Nvidia being Nvidia. Will definitely wait on AMD's line now.
Or just wait for whatever the manufacturers come up with. Idk why anyone want the Founders edition anyways. Outside of specific builds the blower cooler seen on reference cards is ALWAYS worse, and charging more money for an inferior cooler is just dumb.
Also, are we assuming that like... all the benchmarks that have come out are trying to hide something from us? The card performs fine even with an inferior design.
The funny thing about that demo he showed at the start, was that was a game called Paragon. My 980 TI doesn't break 70c if i throttle the FPS to 60 either, so that is a bad example. It isn't until it starts hitting the 140+ FPS that i hear the fans kick in on that game.
Was there a release date for aftermarket 1080s?
Not yet afaik
I have been searching daily for any news from msi, asus, gigabyte, evga etc. Havent seen much until today. a bunch of teaser ads
most seem to point to June. I cant imagine them not being available at launch. My own theory is that Nvidia doesnt want any aftermarket cooler version dropping until june so they can sell more founders to idiots.
