FFRK - Abyss Dungeon 03 - White Magic Event and Strategies

Remember that you do NOT need to worry about completing this, if you are a newer player and don't have the hones/gear/chars leveled needed to clear, you can wait for the abyss dungeon to open up again next month and complete both this one and the next one then.

    Event End Date: June 4

All Information is taken from a mixture of Reddit/Spreadsheets/Kongbakpao Site.

Most, if not all info for the event (Commentary/Ultimate Abilities was directly copy/pasted from it, so all credit to the site for that especially!) comes from this site: http://ffrk.kongbakpao.com/abyss-3/

    Dungeon Bosses

    Scarmiglione (FF4)
    HP: ~187000
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Scarmiglione without being KO'd.
    • Exploit Scarmiglione's weakness to holy attacks.
    • Do not use fire attacks against Scarmiglione.

    Weak: Holy and Fire
    Absorb: Ice and Earth
Vulnerabilities: Slow Abilities and Stop Abilities

    Commentary

Reduce his magic because Thundaga can hurt otherwise. Other than that a pretty straightforward fight.

    Recommended abilities: Magic Breakdown, Shellga
Recommended RW: SG/SS2, Scream (Ramza), anything with Hastega

    TOTAL medals = 18 medals
, meaning you can only lose a max of 3 medals to get Mastery.

    Dullahan (FF6)
    HP: ~236000
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Dullahan without being KO'd.
    • Exploit Dullahan's weakness to fire attacks.
    • Do not use ice attacks against Dullahan.

    Weak: Fire
    Absorb: Ice
    Vulnerabilities: Blind Abilities

    Commentary

His magic hits like a truck, make sure you have Shellga up at all times. Magic Breakdown helps as well. His attacks hit hard but not as much as his magic attacks.

    Recommended abilities: Magic Breakdown, Shellga
    Recommended RW: SG/SS2, Scream (Ramza)

Total medals = 18, meaning you can only afford to lose 3 medals to get Mastery.

    Gi Nattak (FF7)
HP: ~165600 (Gi Nattak), ~53100 (Soul Fire)
    Target Score:
    • Defeat the Gi Nattak without being KO'd.
    • Exploit Gi Nattak's weakness to holy attacks.
    • Afflict Gi Nattak with Poison.

Weak: Holy (Both), Wind (Soul Fire)
Null: Earth and Water (Both), Poison (Soul Fire)
Vulnerabilities: Poison Abilities (Gi Nattak), Slow Abilities (Soul Fire)

    Commentary
    • The battle ends when Gi Nattak is defeated.

Unlike previous versions of Gi Nattak, the Soul Fires in this fight are now able to cast an AoE Fira so do take note that it won’t be a straightforward Carbuncle cheese. Make sure you have Shellga up and also AoE heals.

    Recommended abilities: Multi-Break, Shellga, Carbuncle
Recommended RW: SG/SS2, Scream (Ramza), Mighty Guard (VIII)

Total medals = 18, meaning you can only afford to lose 3 medals to get Mastery.

    Tiamat (FF12)
    HP: ~287100
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Tiamat without being KO'd.
    • Exploit Tiamat's weakness to earth attacks.

    Weak: Earth
    Absorbs: Wind
    Resists: Everything Else
    Vulnerabilities: Slow

    Commentary

Tiamat’s physical and magic attacks hurt a lot, make sure you buff the party with both Protectga and Shellga if possible. Other than that this is a straightforward attrition fight.

Recommended abilities: defensive Breakdowns, Protectga, Shellga
    Recommended RW: SG/SS2, Scream (Ramza)

Total medals = 15, meaning you can only afford to lose TWO medals to get Mastery.

    Evrae Altana (Abyss)
    HP: P1: ~59000, P2: ~79000 (Lenses: ~29000 each), P3:~110000
    Target Score:
    • Do not use Black Magic on Evrae Altana.
    • Do not use Summoning Magic on Evrae Altana.
    • Defeat Evrae Altana before it uses Nightmare Poison Breath.

Weak: Holy (Evrae Altana & Guado Guardian & Altana Lense)
    Absorbs: Poison (Evrae Altana)
    Immunities: All Break Effects
Vulnerabilities: Poison Abilities (Evrae Altana), KO Abilities (Altana Lenses & Guado Guardian), Stun Abilities (Guado Guardian)

    Abilities

    ► Phase 1

Melee Attack: Deal ranged physical damage to all targets.
Photon Spray: Deal non-elemental damage to one target eight times in a row.
Poison Breath: Deal poison damage and Poison all targets.
Nightmare Poison Breath: Deal massive poison damage and Poison all targets.
Poison Breath (Counter): Deal poison damage and Poison all targets. (trigger: physical and black magic attacks)

    ► Phase 2

Photon Spray: Deal non-elemental damage to one target eight times in a row.
Explosion: Deal magic damage to all targets, proportional to their maximum HP.
Tail Screw: Deal magic damage to all targets, proportional to their current HP. (trigger: physical and black magic attacks)

    ► Phase 3

Melee Attack: Deal ranged physical damage to all targets.
Photon Spray: Deal non-elemental damage to one target eight times in a row.
Poison Breath: Deal poison damage and Poison all targets.
Nightmare Poison Breath: Deal massive poison damage and Poison all targets.
Poison Breath (Counter): Deal poison damage and Poison all targets. (trigger: physical and black magic attacks)

    ► Guado Guardian

Bio: Deal moderate poison damage and Poison one target.
Shell: Grant Shell to one target.
Haste: Grant Haste to one target.

    Commentary

    • Evrae Altana is undead, therefore recovery spells will damage it.

    PHASE 1: Evrae Altana (Solo)

In this phase Evrae just uses his regular moves, with an added mechanic. Evrae will inflict Poison status on himself (it will raise its head and its mouth will spew green mist, indicating that it’s charging Nightmare Poison Breath). You need to remove the Poison ASAP, either with Esuna or Poisona. When Evrae falls in this phase, it is immediately revived and it will spawn four Altana Lenses in the front row.

PHASE 2: Evrae Altana + Altana Lenses

    • Altana Lenses are undead, so recovery spells will deal damage to them.
    • Phase 2 ends when Evrae is defeated.
    • When Evrae is defeated, it will use Explosion (25% of your Max HP as damage), followed by Explosions (40% of your Max HP as damage) from any Lenses left alive.

In my opinion I think this is the hardest phase of the fight, mainly because of the potential damage you will be taking. Definitely pay more attention here.

Phase 2 works as such: Evrae will “link” itself to an Altana Lens (refer to this image, I shall call the top Lens, Lens 1). Evrae will use Photon Spray once before switching to another Lens. The Lenses here do nothing. However, they will give Evrae’s Photon Spray additional effects.

    • Lens 1: Photon Spray also inflicts Poison
    • Lens 2: Photon Spray deals increased damage (twice as hard?)
    • Lens 3: Photon Spray also inflicts Petrification
    • Lens 4: Photon Spray also inflicts Silence

You definitely want to kill the Lenses before killing Evrae, unless you are confident in tanking all 5 explosions (which I highly doubt). I recommend killing Lens 3 and Lens 4 first so you don’t have to deal with potential Petrification/Silence shenanigans.

    • If you use Dispel on Lens 2, it temporarily loses its damage boost to Photon Spray (DIspel only works on Lens 2)
    • If you use Esuna on Lenses 1, 3, or 4, it temporarily loses its debuff attachment to Photon Spray (similarly, Esuna only works on Lenses 1, 3 and 4)
    • If you use Raise (or any other KO type moves) on a Lens, it will counter with Explosion (40% of your max HP as damage).

If you have access to multiple AoE heals, KO’ing the Lenses with Raise/Curaise is a viable (or even recommended) strategy. You can control the explosions and end the phase much faster than if you were to defeat the Lenses one by one with regular holy spells.

By the time Phase 2 ends, your party will most probably be low on HP from the explosion(s). Pre-casting a heal (or AoE heal) right before Phase 2 ends is a good idea.

PHASE 3: Evrae Altana + Guado Guardian

In this phase a Guado Guardian will be summoned to aid Evrae Altana, buffing him and inflicting Poison on Evrae with Bio. When Guado Guardian dies, a new one spawns, this happens for a few times.

At this point you just have to nuke Evrae down while also making sure to remove any Poison debuff on it. You may want to bring Dispel to remove his Shell so that your spells hit harder.

Recommended abilities: Esuna/Poisona, Diara, Diaga, Holy, Shellga
Recommended RW: SG/SS2, anything with Hastega, anything with a huge party heal, anything with holy magic damage, anything with RES boost or Shellga

Total medals = 18, meaning you can only afford to lose 3 medals to get Mastery.

Not sure, don't think you can inflict regen on undead though.

Edit: past threads on reddit show that using regen on undead grants them regen, so it'll heal them instead of damaging them.

Garnet getting 5 star white magic as part of this or is that a mistake? I wouldn't mind having Divine Guardian.

Do the lenses have high def? If not I'm planning on taking Beatrix w/ seiken stock break to pretty much skip phase 2.

Geez, have Gi Nattak always been this much of a bitch? Assholes open up with 3k-4k Drains, 3k Fira, and 2k AoE Fira. Can't even setup mitigation without someone dropping. Had to regroup to a setup to deal with that opening burst.

    Spoiler: show

Does this nightmare subdungeon have any special specs?

Like I know combat one had high res, so black mages were useless

Not really, they dropped the special specs for a majority of them as more came out, for example the summon dungeon doesn't have any special functions that require you to use summon magic, its more of they just design the final boss of the dungeon to be tailored to the theme.

Just for the record, the lenses do have stupid high defense. I had Beatrix with ~540 atk use seiken stock break, and it only did 3.8-4k per hit. Still useful, just not as much as I had hoped.

FFRK decided to crash on phase 3. I fucked up though and the poison breath got off. Dreamstage magic blink was on though so it was evaded lol. It's a long fight so I'll try again a lil later.

fun fact: curaise doesn't OHKO the lenses, the cure effect takes priority so it just does damage. if you want to one-shot them, bring raise.

Is haste really needed for this? Or protect or shell? I heard great stuff about using the sending for phase 2 so wanted to use that for RW maybe

But I'd have to find a way to squeeze shellga I guess? I don't have native haste with mages and I guess I can start Vanille with dr mog teaching for protect

The Sending is good but not needed. If you want Haste and Shellga use Quistis or Garnet SSBs as RWs imo. Garnet is probably better considering you will have room for Shellga among 5 mages anyway.
It can destroy mirrors easily though, it's a guaranteed 9999 AoE damage on this fight. Just remember that even if destroyed you still need to deal with the damage afterwards until Evrae is killed and there's a third phase.

I'm not saying I want haste or shellga I'm wondering if the boss is really fast, if it will be too annoying without haste

Well let's put it this way: the boss is not too bad until phase 3 when he starts charging his breath a lot. You may want a Haste there on 1 character at least (whoever has Esuna to get rid of Poison).

Hmmm. This is going to require some good planning. I have no Holy breaks, but plenty of holy magic. Does Raise really knock out the mirrors?
