Essentially, David Cameron and the conservative party were on the verge of losing pretty big. David Cameron decided that pulling this referendum out of his ass would save his job, thinking it had no chance of passing. Well, it did save his job, it could pass, and now him and pretty much every conservative regret it, but have to ride it out because that's their only hope of keeping their jobs. Except for Cameron, he's out. This referendum is pretty much the Donald Trump of the UK. It's heavily favored in the old, the poor, and the undereducated.

To be 18 in 1975, you'd have to be 59 or 60. I'm bad at math. That's not that old lol.
