Trailer was not as terrible as I expected it to be. More excited about Willem Dafoe than anything lol

Love how they get mad over that but don't care about making L black. Always love those comments on anime adaptations though... I mean look at the sources. A lot of main characters in manga/anime look more like Caucasian than Asian even while making their family members obviously Asian lol
People yelling white washing just wanna sit around and ignore the original japanese movies and the new J series one. This is just an adaptation like Gits: Arise and the new movie is. dealwititnerds.jpg
Did they say if Ryuk is going to be CGI? I really hope not. It looked so cheesy in the Jap version.
Should I watch the anime series before watching the movie? If so, subbed (good translation?) or dubbed (decent VA?)?
If you mean this movie then probably wont make a difference since it's an adaptation but I would anyways because it's awesome. The Japanese movies probably since they are basically abridged versions of the series with a few differences. Been so long forget who I got my subs from lol. But I think this one of the few that the official dubs weren't too bad. Also one of the few I actually prefer the manga really.
I agree with this comment posted on the youtube trailer the most:
The reason Light was a good character was partly the way he used his looks and charm to his advantage, partly that his was keeping a clean image because his career trajectory was to go into the police force and take after his father (so finding the Death Note and becoming the kind of person he did was very personally significant to him and his family) and partly that he was able to completely blend in and avoid suspicion.my only issue with the casting choice for light is that he looks too weird (yes it's blunt but no offence towards the actor). in the anime, light came across as a handsome, intelligent young man with a promising future, but underneath the skin was a cold sociopath. The guy in this trailer looks like a shy introvert type who spends time in class doodling pentagrams and reading communist philosophies. but it's just my opinion, none of us have seen the thing yet
This kid on the other hand looks like the kind of dude you follow with a security camera in a department store to make sure he's not engaging in petty shoplifting for his slutty girlfriend.
That is a really good criticism.
Something amusing I found out about on Twitter:
https://twitter.com/Ryuk
Check the accounts he's following.
Well this looks stupid. One of the best scenes in the original was L tricking Light into killing "him" only to reveal it wasn't him and he now knows exactly where Kira is. This one has L, who is extremely protective of his identity... giving a press conference in a hoody.
They put some makeup on Willem Dafoe to make him look less ugly.
Can I just get the parts with Willem Dafoe? Rest of the thing can suck.
Well, it could've been worse.
I'd say L got the worst treatment in the adaptation.
Man, this is gonna suck.
It was ok, Ryuk was the only thing they got all right.
L was painfully bad. Overall this sucked.
Shame. Not surprising but shame.
