On that charge yeah, but the 2nd charge was a landslide against him so he was cooked either way.

AB 2011, authored by Buffy Wicks, an East Bay Assembly member, and passed by the Legislature last week, rezones commercial areas on major boulevards for three-to-six story residential development. And it permits those buildings “by right,” meaning they will not be subject to discretionary reviews from neighbors or lawsuits under the California Environmental Quality Act. All told, the bill could enable the construction of more than 2 million new homes.

As I said in the economy thread, both AB2011 and SB6 signed into law. Each had backing of different groups but both guarantee union-scale wages and promise an expedited construction while trying to avoid further sprawl.

The Assembly bill includes a requirement for union-scale wages, along with stringent environmental standards and a mandate that a certain percentage of the units be affordable for low- and extremely low-income residents.

The Senate’s version was billed as a “middle-class” housing proposal, and requires the union-scale wages as a minimum labor standard while ensuring that a so-called skilled and trained workforce is used in most situations. The additional regulation guarantees most workers are unionized.

We need to do away with zoning. It's a suburban phenomenon that promotes pockets of use types. This area is housing. This area is shopping. This area is hazard waste.

Instead we need to create mixed use districts while also making sure tanneries aren't placed next door.
