I thought perhaps we could benefit from a thread to discuss our local elections. Obviously, being such a diverse group, we're going to have a lot of localities, but I think it could be interesting to talk about. Maybe the more active political types can critique the people running for those who are less active, help each other form opinions of our candidates, etc.
So, to kick things off, my own local election. I got a pamphlet from one Elise Diesslin, and she followed up with a call, which I thought was nice. I'm actually older than she is, which is interesting. On the pamphlet she lists her key issues as "Education, Healthcare, and Infrastructure," and she's DFL, which tells me her platform probably aligns pretty well with my own interests, so I'm considering voting for her. I'd like a bit more information about her before I decide, but unless there's a better alternative (i don't know) I may end up voting against her opponents anyway. The incumbent is a Republican, older, and seems to espouse many policies I actively disagree with. So yeah.
So. Tell me what you think, or share your thoughts about your own local elections.
As always, keep it civil. This thread is intended for people to mull over their options on local elections, perhaps hear about candidates they might not have, get outside views on the issues facing their area, compare with others in the same region, etc. You may debate policy, but keep it at the local level.
