Only took Nintendo a decade to finally decide to cash in on the business model that Atari did with their little direct plugin "consoles" they sold like crazy during the holidays in the early 2000s.

As a fan I'm annoyed it isn't upgradeable but it's not designed for me; it's designed for the casual consumer who wants to relive some nostalgia.

I mean its not like this isn't already happening. I've seen consoles being sold at malls that features pre-built games that included SMB.

Maybe if it was $30-40 like those Atari/Namco things you used to see at Walmart.
It's a fun novelty at most or a gift for those that are young and innocent and can enjoy a game for what it is. The game selection is surprisingly good, healthy mix of first party and third party hits, although some lack of expanding the game collections (mini-carts with 30 games loaded on each?) is a missed opportunity.

Ideally we'd have some form of external connector to play our original carts, but we're probably in the minority to not justify the price of Nintendo bothering, and there's already better solutions out there for us for around the same price that do that and much more.
    Spoiler: show
Given how raw/specific these old consoles were with their component speeds and timings, would it have even been possible for Nintendo to have produced an authentic hardware revision? To get that 100% compatibility that the emulators still have to fudge/cheat at.

I'd probably grab one for collector's sake if I can get one on sale a year or so down the road.

I'm definitely going to get it, and i'm pretty sure someone will bust out homebrew for it.

Considering NES games are $5 on virtual console, $60 for 30 games isn't terrible. That said I think it'd be better at $40-50 range too. I don't think I'll personally get this but it does seem like a nice gift idea.

I think it's probably going for that audience of adults of grew up with those consoles but never really kept up with modern gaming. It looks cute, fits nicely next to the tv and can be thrown into a draw.

I kind of want one but I have a Wii U and 3DS with virtual console games on and it'd seen a bit.. wasteful

Notable omissions, mostly of a non-Nintendo copyright nature:

    TMNT 1 - 3 (it's a current hot property so I understand why it's not on here)
Disney Adventures in the Magic Kingdom (well, it has more nostalgia value than actually being a good game)
The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy (was one of the best - if not the best period - NES adventure games and severely underrated)
Ducktales (again, Disney, but also the first game was recently remade so I also understand this omission)
    Chip & Dale
Tom & Jerry (was quite a good game)
    The Little Mermaid
Duck Hunt (adding $20 to the price for the gun wouldn't fly though lol)
    Tetris
Adventure Island 1 - 3 (riding dinosaurs is rad)
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle (Birthday Bash kind of sucked)
    Dragon Warrior
    Yoshi (the stacking game)
    Q-bert
    Paperboy
    Marble Madness

My takeaway is I really enjoyed Disney games, and most of them were pretty good. Also some particularly good classics are missing.
Glad to see Gradius and Bubble Bobble are there at least. Those were excellent. This will be a good collection for people who don't know what emulators are.

Bugs bunny crazy castle! That game was actually a lot of fun, and marble madness was rage inducing. The only 2 games i'd take from that list other than those 2 are Chip & Dale (hell coulda been a nice opportunity to bring us the jp onry C&D2), and Ducktales. Disney/capcom games had a special place in my heart.

I could have bought an 11 pull and have 1000 gems left over, but all I got was this silly title.

Also no RBI Baseball = fail. Played that shit so much with Dwight Gooden throwing the heat. Hell, even Golf isn't on this list.

Also missing from this that I would have wanted are that haven't been said yet:
    +Captain Skyhawk
    +Snake Rattle & Roll
    +Skate or Die
    +Bomberman
+Bigfoot (fuck that shit hurt my fingers)
    +RC Pro Am
    +Legendary Wings
    +Rad Racer
    +River City Ransom
    +Rampage

Unfortunately a lot of those would have licensing issues. RBI Baseball is essentially owned by MLB now, RC Pro Am is a RARE game that's not using a nintendo character, and I think was included in the RARE compilation on XBOne

They missed out on making customized SD-cards that look like NES carts that would hold 25-30 games on each of them.

Would I still have to blow in them to get the games to work?
