BREAKING: Loud explosion heard in capital Ankara, CNN-Turk says explosion occurred at state-run television building.
fuck, I was gonna go back to turkey for vacation next month
Erdogan is claiming Gülenist elements within the Turkish Armed Forces are responsible for the coup. for them unaware Fethullah Gülen is a Turkish preacher advocating a moderate form of Islam embracing science, humanitarian outreach, and interfaith tolerance, and was a seminal figure in the so-called Deep State. formerly an ally of Erdogan's they split a few years ago as Gülen allies sought corruption charges against members of Erdogan's party including his own sons. Erdogan promptly responded by jailing and persecuting Gülenists and labeling the movement a terrorist group. they had faced the oppression with remarkable quiescence until now.
though, as the source is coming from Erdogan's people he may just be blaming a familiar enemy of the state.
I read some comments from various experts right after the news broke that he would most likely put blame on Gülen, so no surprise there
Well, Gulen seems like an alright bro, is he who they are trying to put into power? I suppose too little is known at this point.
ohHe currently lives in self-imposed exile in the United States, residing in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania.

Gunfire heard on bridge over Bosphorus, Istanbul as military coup unfolds in Turkey
wonder who's winning
considering Erdogan recently opened up Turkish airbases for U.S. aircraft flying missions against ISIS and Turkey presently houses 2.5 million Syrian refugees the last possible thing our foreign policy desires is instability in Turkey.
haaaaaaaaaaaa
not surprising Merkel hates Erdogan.
Video being shown on MSNBC shows a lot of people in the streets of what looks like Istanbul
Lot of people near the bridges in Istanbul too (They all dropped to the ground in this one, guessing gunfire)
Guy talking on MSNBC who works for the Ctr for Strategic & Interational Studies, Turkey, is saying that the people appear to be against the coup
i mean he won the 2014 election 52% to 38% with 74% turnout. diet-authoritarian and diet-Islamist he may be he clearly has the majority of Turks with him.
westerners may be sympathetic to Erdogan backlash but the coup is going against the will of the people as expressed in (kinda mostly) fair and free elections.
