Sounds like only a portion of the military is taking part in the coup - between that and the people seeming decidedly against it, and them not having Erdogan under arrest, it's doomed to fail.
Basically every political group in Turkey that has commented has come out against it, including groups that are anti-Erdogan. Hard to have an effective coup if you don't even have the majority of the military and/or political organizations behind you.
Even if this fails, the fallout from this is going to be bad. Even if Erdogan is democratically elected (in the same way Putin is), the retaliation is going to make him look even worse.
The military is going to get neutered, Erdogan is going to get more paranoid and crack down on everyone, and generally life in Turkey is going to be shit.
