    Commentary

Carbuncle is really great in this fight. Make sure you have ways to heal the party, such as AoE heals and/or heavy regen. Their physical attacks hurt much more than their magic so do take note. You can have someone tank the physical attacks with Draw Fire.

Recommended abilities: Shellga, Carbuncle, Tornado Strike, Break Fever
Recommended RW: SG/SS2, Scream, Tyro BSB, Stellar Circle 5

    ► Weak

Twister: Deal moderate special magic wind damage to all targets.
Shockwave: Deal ranged physical damage to all targets.
Tidal Wave: Deal special magic water damage to all targets.
Psychokinesis: Deal moderate ranged physical damage to one target.

Attack (Counter): Deal physical damage to one target. (trigger: physical attacks)
Breath Wing (Counter): Deal damage to all targets, proportional to HP (trigger: magic attacks)

    Commentary
    • When Nova Dragon’s HP is brought under 50%, it will use Twister as an interrupt.

The trick in this fight is recovering after the 50% mark due to the scripted Twister. With Shellga and Full Break it still dealt about 3.5k damage to the party. This damage can be reduced with wind resist accessories so I recommend equipping them if you have any. If you have AoE heals, time it such that it goes off right after someone else brings Nova Dragon under 50%HP.

After Twister, Nova Dragon will be in Weak phase, not very threatening. He has a new move called Ultimate Psychokinesis which is just 2 physical hits.

Draw Fire is actually excellent in this fight because Nova Dragon does a lot of single target physical damage.

Recommended abilities: Shellga, Protectga, defensive Breakdowns, Draw Fire
Recommended RW: SG/SS2, Scream, Tyro BSB

Updated OP with the new shared SB relic, if you are planning on using the ATK boost, don't bother, its a measly 15% ATK boost.

Wondering if this setup will be good for FFIX U
Freya Fire(ice jump + Wind Jump)
    Steiner Firaga + Aerora Strike
Zidane : Wind move forgot the name + Magic Break
    Eiko Curaja + Shellga
    Garnet Curaja + Protectga
or maybe give something like Valefor to Garnet instead of 2nd Curaja

    Shout RW

I could give Eiko And/or Garnet one of those FFX weapon with aoe heal

I'm thinking of having Bea be my backup cure.

    Beatrix (LS, Curaise); Shock
    Freya (Ice/Wind Jumps) Nada
    Eiko (Curaja, Etude) Hastega
Zidane (Steal shit, wind slash) Bumblefuck

Then I can either bring Dagger, Steiner, Vivi, or Amarant and I'm not sure who would work best (I can back row Am and have him draw fire RM or just bring Steiner and have him tank).

Seeing as the U fight has a total HP pool of ~390k based on the notes above, I'd say at least 1 person should be using AoE.

    RW Shout

This is the setup I was planning, though I'll probably replace ifrit with an r2 phoenix. Having Freya's SSB I do get wind covered, but if I didn't have that I'd probably replace the dragoon jump with wind jump.

EDIT: made a couple of changes, swapped Eiko's RM to Master in White. And swapped Vivi out for Kuja to fit Protect in there as well.

That Shellga on Eiko is such a waste Rata, give her Mako Might and just use her SB. I'd also use summons on U considering there's three targets with meh HP values. Could also free up a slot on Steiner for Magic Lure and give him Red's Reflect materia.

    RW - Shout

Thinking of this setup on U+. Accessory is wrong on Garnet but too lazy to fix the pic and I will probably use the HP/RES acc. I have Zidane back rowed with draw fire and a ranged weapon to soak up single target physical attacks/counters, and being able to heal himself with TR should reduce strain on my healer while still being able to deal reasonably good damage. Again, wind weakness is covered by Freya SSB, otherwise I'd give her a wind jump to take care of that target score.

Zidane will pretty much be front line for me. Then I can bring Bea, Eiko, Freya, and maybe Quina.

not sure if i'll do CM for these or not, i could maybe do ult with a mage team since i have 6* wizard rod + the leviathan and doublecast venom weapons and garnet/vivi/kuja all at 80. not sure how viable that is though since i'd probably have to jam steiner in for medal conditions and without full break/breakdowns i might not have the damage to close it out.

Thinking about this for Ultimate CM. Shout RW.

I know ive kind of gimped out Beatrix damage, but I really have no other choice keeping mastery conditions in mind and hope the reflected damage makes up for it. Focus Waltz 1 down with Vivi and Freya (firaja and Ice Jump) while Steiner and Beatrix get set. With Steiner in practice the only one taking damage Eiko should be okay without a group medica. When Waltz 1 is down, Vivi should have enough SB to self Faith for Meteor and remaining Firaja uses. Steiner then joins Freya in taking down Waltz 3 and then 2 with Wind attacks.

One thing to remember about jump abilities and SBs is that they are ranged even if it isn't explicitly stated in game. So, if that's all you're using with Freya then you can put her in the back row for some extra mitigation.

Setup looks good - if you're putting wind on the phys tank, zidane can do it from the backrow with wind slash, although with a considerably lower multiplier.
If you want freya in the front row, she might as well take magic breakdown and then trix can take wind? Not sure what atk trix has in that setup...
