Fall Anime 2016 Season Thread

Little early, but I decided to put together my top 10 show list for the year:

2) Mob Psycho 100 (summer)
3) MSG Iron-Blooded Orphans (winter/fall)
4) Gi(a)rlish Number (fall)
5) Hibike! Euphonium S2 (fall)
6) Jojo DIU (spring-fall)
7) Space Patrol Luluco (spring)
8) My Hero Academia (spring)
9) Erased (winter)
10) Re:Zero (spring-summer)

Honorable Mentions: Konosuba, Macross Delta, Shokugeki no Soma, Alderamin on the Sky, Saiki-K, This Art Club Has a Problem!, Sakamoto Desu Ga?, ReLIFE, Drifters, Trickster, Fate Kaleid 3wei, Grimgar, Bakuon!, Haikyuu!, Tanaka-kun, DR3

Can't cosign danganronpa or Fate Kaleid 3wei, but the rest I agree with. The order specifically just changes a bit but this year has been really good. Probably pales in comparison to next year though.

What did no one like Tales of Zestiria? I mean the story wasn't the greatest though we really still in the middle of it... but the animation was pretty great

In all seriousness, I don't really remember what was from this year and what wasn't but here goes, with caveat that obviously Haikyuu is #1 but it is a continuation.

5: Re: Zero (up until the ending)
6: Gundam IBO
7: Tales of Zestria
8: Erased
9: Alderamin

Nothing else notable sticks out in my mind. Really, All that mattered was Haikyuu, Flying Witch, Yuri, and Showa. Everything else could've just not been made and I would have been fine with that.

Tales was good but since I've played the game it didn't do much else but showcase some nice animation. Probably forgetting some other stuff, like Gundam IBO/Thunderbolt, Hibiki Euphonium, 3-Gatsu no Lion, Yuri on Ice!!! and Keijo!!!!!!!!!!! (I think that's the right amount).

Ajin will probably go on the list when I finish season 2.

It says a lot about the quality of this year that I'm forgetting/leaving off stuff like Hibike, Tales of Zestiria, 3-gatsu, She & Her Cat.. in fact at this point Hibike probably gets in there at my #4 bumping the rest down.

The Flying Witch OP honestly is probably my #1 with the show itself going to #2.

I can, and do, listen to that shit far too much.

Funny thing about this year is a lot of the seasons didn't look great and then several series kind of surprised us. Especially in the slice of life/drama categories

Some other notables imo. Assclass S2, Dimension W (ok mostly just loved the OP but series wasn't half bad), Joker Game, Twin star exorcist (ongoing though so technically part of next year too), Big Order, seven deadly sins, My Wife is the Student Council President, and some from this season looked good but was too busy to keep up so about to power watch them

Can't really bring myself to make a list, only to really critique shows I watched for better or worse. Probably too many would wind up in the "Not bad, but forgettable" category.

This year as a whole was really fucking solid. A lot of good shows for everyone of different tastes which is really apparent when you read the various posts throughout the year. The nice thing is that next year is looking even stronger in that regard, and that's not including any hidden gems/new shows that sprout up along the way

Yeah 2017 gunna be the year of the sequels/continuations of shows that are good which bodes well. That said there is reasonable fear that some wont live up to first/previous seasons/iterations so we shall see. Either way Ufotable is promising a fair amount (like 2 series and I think the fate ovas) of eye candy if nothing else

This year as a whole was really fucking solid.

Earlier this year was waaaay better than fall/winter for me. Sakamoto, Mob Psycho, Re:Zero, Boku no Hero Academia, Luluco. The only thing I watch right now is Jojo.

If you liked Sakamoto and Mob Psycho, you should be watching Saiki no Kusuo. It's basically those two shows combined and a lot of fun.

The source material is a Jump manga too for what it's worth

Updated my list - after the most recent episodes of Hibike and Girlish Number I had to add them in. And to boot I think Girlish Number is the better show - the voice acting is just way too clever to ignore.

I feel like it's a different show that doesn't really need to complete with Hibiki, but I agree that's its really entertaining and interesting.

Some of those characters you definitely wouldn't see in a show about VAs lol. The two faced aspect of the business is fun to see because a lot of shows would definitely try to idolize it.

Definitely way more interesting. Especially when you compare it to the last anime about voice actors (Sore ga Seiyuu) which does exactly what you said in idolizing the industry and was a really awful show lol.
